Good news and not so good news.
Good news first? Ok. My friend Mon and I enjoy little Sunday Fundays. Clearly. This time, we revisted Sweet Tomatoes for fabulous salads. I may or may not have also been excited to go for frozen yogurt. I’ve been seeing way too many of you people eating it and I was getting a craving. So we went. And it was CROWDED. We were also there kind of early (to work with the movie time we wanted to see). Needless to say, we had to wait for a little while for the senior citizens to finish their coffee and lounging. At 6:00. Sweet Tomatoes is THE place to be at 6:00. And then we decided we might just be too young of a demographic to be frequenting this place. Whatever. I get my salad and I get my ice cream. I’ll chill with the old peeps.
Anyhoo, this is what I ended up with when I sat down:
When it comes to salad, I just wanna have it all! Obviously. I couldn’t tell you what all was in it, because I might as well have just blacked out while standing at the salad bar. Went crazy… but it was great! Mon also had a tasty creation.
Well sorta- she added pickles. But I won’t judge.
I’m not a pickle person. They kind of gross me out. I don’t even like it when they touch the other food on my plate because it’s like the food is immediately infected with pickle grossness. Ick.
We sat and caught up on the weekend. Then decided we had enough conversation and got to the good stuff. I may have gotten carried away with the chocolate sauce, but is that really the worst of my problems? I hardly think so.
Oh and that’s also a peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie bar. Perfect addition. I’m not a fan of when the fro yo almost immediately melts (like it was). So I had to eat it faster.
Also, I would like to throw in that when previewing this post, the ice cream bowl looks almost as big as the salad bowl… I promise you it was not. Although it would have been pretty cool if it was…
The sugar got us all giggly. Not that we aren’t like that when we’re together as is, but the sugar worsens it. We were glad we decided not to go to the 3D version of Alice in Wonderland. That would have just been overkill. People would have probably thought we were stoned. We went to the regular version instead. And people still probably thought we were stoned. Oh well…
The movie was pretty good. I know the reviews weren’t so hot, but I still have to hand it to Tim Burton for being just awesome. He has the craziest vision. And I love it. So yeah. I’m aware we missed out on the Oscars. I considered this, but then decided I was completely happy catching the clips and award winners on the news and watching E!’s Fashion Police. Sometimes the actual show tends to drag…
The not so good news? I ran again yesterday- a decent 3.5 miles according to Nike+. But by the time Mon picked me up for Sunday Funday, the soreness was setting in. Like I said before, it’s not the same leg that was injured last time- this time it’s in the right leg. I. Am. Frustrated. I was telling Mon on the way to eat, I just don’t understand. I am young. I am healthy. I have endurance. I have the will. Why is my body not letting me do it?? I do feel that part of this could very well be from my spending alot of time still on the treadmill vs. outside. When I discussed it with my orthopedist before, he said on the treadmill your motion becomes much more restricted and repetitive, which makes yet another reason my issue with the stress reaction in my left leg popped up.
So. I’m taking a couple days off of running. I should have probably taken this weekend off, but like I told Adam- I’m just not normal. Either way, I’m getting off of that damn treadmill and doing it all outside for awhile to see if that helps. But first- rest. I need to be good to run. I may not run well on the 21st, but I will run it. Maybe my training leading up to it will not be as extensive as I would have liked, but we’re just going to have to deal with that. Right now I’m saying two days off at least. Maybe I’ll do The Shred on Tuesday or something, but it is all dependent on how everything feels. The Shred is still very good about putting all sorts of strain in your legs, so even doing that is kinda iffy. I’ll probably just go back to arms and weights for tomorrow.
Anyone else ever dealt with a stress reaction? Any advice? Ugh! This blows!!!
Ugh. It’s always something…. Hello Monday. What a great way to start the week! Grr…

The treadmill is the devil, seriously, he does horrid things to my knee. So I have begun just sticking to running outside and it’s been MUCH better.
Speaking of soreness, I was with Joey last night and he played the new Ludacris song “How Low” and I was being a spaz as usual and acting like one of those crazy club girls (like you might see in the back room of fieldhouse) and I did the splits. Let me tell you, I’m not as young as I used to be. haha. Today the inner thighs are a little tight.
ahahaha… I used to rock it at Fieldhouse! Now I blush a little just thinking about it… :S
And ya gotta stretch before those stripper-splits moves! :p
Do you think the leg is an actual injury or just the aches and pains that comes along with running? I know I get the random pains and issues when I put in a lot of miles…some of it goes with the territory.
If you are up to it there is a 5k in Palatine (the Bunny Dash) on April 3!
Courtney
adventures in tri-ing
I’m hoping it’s just an ache that’s telling me to slow down with adding the mileage and nothing else… crossing fingers!
If I don’t end up going out of town for Easter, I’d be down to do the Bunny Dash! My parents are yet to inform me of plans… nothing like being last minute!
i’ve never had a stress reaction but it’s on the possible things my shin could be. any chance you can see a sports med doc?
and i’m the same way with pickles. the only time one has ever looked attractive to me was after my marathon ha
Well I could go see my orthopedist but I’m going to hold off on that one- I really cringe at the thought of another mri being suggested… first off because of the cost, and secondly because I hate laying there for an hour without moving at all! lol.
Yikes girl, so sorry! but you are doing good to listen to your body! This is kind of one of those things where you should do as I say, not as I do. Because when I first started feeling twinges of pain, i basically said to hell with it, i’m strong, i’m young, i’m invincible, and kept running. And then I had a stress fracture. While I (and you) are young and strong, our bodies are not invincible. I never even entertained the possibility that something like a stress fracture could happen to me…no way. Just goes to show how tough running really is on your body and that we shouldn’t take it for granted. SO just listen to your body and if it hurts at ALL, stop. It might suck now, but it’ll suck even worse if you end up injuring yourself and are out for months. Trust me on this one.
Ok enough preaching…
Pickles- ew. I can’t stand them. Blech.
My best friends and I also tend to get silly when we consume mass quantities of sugar… or even sometimes when we don’t. it’s all good
However your fro-yo looks awesome
That really sucks, hopefully the pain will go away and be back to your normal routine soon.
I would kill for a Sweet Tomatoes, we had them in FL and AZ and have ghetto fabulous Souper! Salad! here in it’s place and it’s just not the same. However, my parents always joke that we are some of the youngest people in there when I go to visit them in FL.
I saw Alice in 3D yesterday and loved it the graphic and colors. It was neat plus Ive never seen a 3d flick before b/c I am behind the times but was all disoriented when I walked out.
Yeah… I was concerned that our little sugar rush in combination with a 3D movie would give us seizures… ha. But it would have been fun!
I think if you just take a little time off, you WILL bounce back. I’m sorry this is happening.
How excited are you for the green water? I was in your neck of the woods last year for St. Pat’s. But we weren’t really doing the party thing, which I realize is probably lame.
Oh I am excited! I’m hoping to actually see it this year bc I have friends who are coming in town and might be in that area! Last year I never made it down…
I was pretty low key last St. Pat’s, too. I just never really get into that holiday…
I know that mixing up your running surfaces is pretty important. Alternate treadmill with gravel, pavement, dirt, etc.
Yes, I think I’m definitely going to be better about switching it up more often!
I used to run on the treadmill 5 days a week for 2-3 miles at a time and I was injured all the time! Now, I run for much longer distances outside and I’m pain-free. It’s weird! Maybe our bodies were designed to run that way and not on hamster wheels?
Feel better!
Exactly exactly exactly! Because I was not getting hurt last summer when I was constantly on the trails! Lesson learned!
Well the Salad & Ice Cream looked divine!
I have been running on a treadmill & I am getting a little nervous about running outside for my 10k…everyone seems to be having a difficult time (physically) transitioning from one to the other…Good Luck!
I actually think it’s not so bad- you’d be surprised. I think the change of surroundings keeps you from getting bored, so that helps counteract the difference in everything else.
sorry to hear you’re hurting! OMG i love sweet tomatoes, we don’t have any around here but my bff and i were obsessed with the one in vegas
. yum! and i know, those ice cream bowls are actually quite small in real life, the pics are deceiving!
Thanks for backing me up on that one! he he he They are tiny… But that was good- because it was the perfect amount!
I love sweet tomatoes! I’ve only been once but it was amazing.
I reaaaallly want to see that movie!
It was great. But that’s my opinion. I’m no critic… but I think the acting and just the look of the movie was worth the trip to see it!
A sweet tomatoes just opened by me…gonna have to try it now!!!
I haven’t ever heard of a stress reaction…keep us posted. I am going to go google it.
Well- I’m definitely not saying that’s what I have going on now, but that’s what happened in my leg a few months ago. Just the fact that there’s pain in a similar spot is what makes me nervous…
Man that dessert looks good.
Hi!! That frozen yogurt looks amazing. Actually, the fudge looks amazing. Haha, love that you were all giggly on the white stuff. Sugar, that is.
I WANT that ice cream. Seriously. Holy yum.
I’m so sorry about your leg! I’ve dealt with a lot of overuse injuries from running over the years…I’ve found stuff that works for me and have stayed relatively healthy for a few years (whereas, I used to be injured at least once a year). Now, I run max 4 days per week, spend more time cross training (cycling mostly), run on trails, and switched to a less substantial running shoe (I run in Newtons). I don’t know if any of this would be good for you, but I def got faster too when I added cross training…
Thanks for the advice! I definitely think that 4 days a week is good for me as well- the crosstraining needs to be a focus, too!
Lately I have been avoiding the treadmill like the plague. Not sure if it is helping at all, but at least i feel like I’m doing something. Also, looks like you’re eating chocolate syrup soup. Nice!
I totally feel you on the “I know something’s not quite right but I’m gonna run anyway thing.” It’s like a pseudo-obsession, except it’s (usually) a good one. When I have a reaction like yours, I force normal people around me to remind me not to hurt myself, and then I try to take a day or two off and tell myself “Normal people do this. And also, you don’t want to have to take six weeks off just so you can run today.” This usually smacks me into a rest day. Or causes me to get up at 5:30 and swim. Which I’m about to do now. Hope you’re feeling better!
I’m so obsessed with the Sweet Tomato, I BEG my in-laws to go every Sunday – they usually give in.
