I won’t be your friend. But I appreciate you.

I’m talking about yoga.  Yes I hated you.  But I get it.  I know now that you help me.  You help make my core stronger.  You help my flexibility.  You help me cross-train and become a better runner.  So thank you.  But I still don’t like you.

I went back and forth for a while when trying to decide if I should break out the yoga.  The leg is hanging in there.  I’m feeling pretty good about it.  Not good enough to run- I’ve become way too over-cautious to do that.  But good enough to do yoga.  So I turned on Exercise TV again and hit up the Fitness Fusion.  My only worry was the warrior series, but the leg hung in there and didn’t complain!  Progress…

Although it had been a little longer than I’d like to admit the last time I actually did it.  I’m sorry yoga, I know I started to ignore you when running came back into my life.  But you have to understand- running and I go way back.  And we’re in love.  No hard feelings… k?

It’s not cardio- but I’ll happily take it!

So I made sure to have a good breakfast for LOTS of energy today.First of all because I’m somewhat short on sleep (I swear the full moon brings weird dreams- what is that about?!?!).  Secondly, because I have a super long road trip to Mid-MO to spend Easter weekend with the fam.  And the discussions of new construction on the news in the background of that picture will most likely screw me over in some way or another… blah.

Before I continue, can I just say that now every time I have oats in a jar, I think about this cartoon my friend Ashlee sent me?  She seriously did crack up at my nut butter addiction…So basically, I’m stirring it in the jar going “megggggaaaaaa butttteeeeerrrrrr!!!!!!” in an unnatural sounding voice (high or low pitch, whichever works for you).  Yep.  It’s the little things, kids.  Just remember that…

Oh how I enjoy this trip.  Not.  Interstate 55 is the highway to nothingness.  At least last time I had some of my fav boys to keep me amused on the way to Mardi Gras in St. Louis.  I’m doing this one alone- and traveling about two hours longer… Ugh!

But it’s aight.  I usually do ok on keeping myself entertained- the playlist has been updated.  There are people to call and catch up with.  I should be good!  But am always open for suggestions if you have ways of making long trips seem shorter (that are not drug induced anyways…)?  Originial plans were to leave after work and stop for the night in St. Louis.  But one of my fav girls, Laura, has to work pretty early on Friday.  So I think I’m just going to try to speed through StL, give a shout out to Busch Stadium on my way through (a little over 3 days until opening day, kids!), and be on my merry way into more highway and hills.  And not much else.  Peaceful… Almost too peaceful… ha ha

So there you have it!  Maybe if you’re lucky, I’ll have some sweet stories of random occurences that happened in the middle of Illinois.  Don’t hold your breath, but there’s always hope…  And cross your fingers that there’s no Children of the Corn incident that goes down if my car breaks down.  It’s a reoccurring concern of mine.

Have a good Thursday!  :)   I’m excited because I found an excuse to get a Trader Joe’s trip in today over lunch- figured I’d pick up some wine and a few unique TJ items as a nice thing to bring home tonight since my fam doesn’t really get exposure to a store around them.  Not that they really care so much about that, but I still like bringing home fun things.  :)  Can we make nut butter an Easter tradition?  Let’s try it…

  1. Oh my god, I think you’re me, but in another state. For reals. Yoga and I did not get along. But I’m starting to love it because it did me a favor and got rid of ITB pain. Thanks, yoga. I still don’t like your crazy poses, but I’ll get there.

Also, that almond butter is my crack. I made a waffle sandwich with it for breakfast. Could eat it all. day. long.

That cartoon cracked me up. Is it sad that my first reaction was HOLY CRAP, WANNA TRY THAT. Gonna sing that from now on.

  2. I think I drove that once, from St. Louis to Mizzou and it was a whole lot of nothing! I hope your drive goes well…I have a 6 hour drive to Syracuse from here and I usually listen to a book on tape! David Sedaris has great books that he reads and his monotone lispy voice makes me crack up all the time! Not to mention his short stories are hysterical!

Also, Yoga is not my friend either! I can’t seem to get into the breathing thing..but Im trying it out on friday morning! Have you ever done hot yoga?

  3. Have a safe trip!!!

  4. Have and safe trip Amy…and HAPPY EASTER! Whenever I am road tripping alone I always always turn up the volume and bust out some toons like I am somebody famous…considering I don’t even sound good in the shower this is not something anyone else would appreciate hearing! haha!

  5. I tried Yoga once. I haven’t went back in 3 years because I was weirded out by the nap time at the end, and how many MEN were there. lol I suppose I should really give it another chance though. I remember that I was sore for days afterward.

  6. I want to love yoga, but I don’t. I slip all over the place, and it’s about staying so calm and focused, which is great in theory, but not something I excel at. Enjoy your road trip!

  7. I’ve been neglecting yoga too which is sad because I really enjoy it!!

    Enjoy your trip :D

  8. Totally been neglecting Yoga also, need to get back into it. Have a fun road trip home! I usually break out the old CD’s, yes CD’s, and laugh at my music choices from high school and sing at the top of my lungs.

    • I should really put more cds in my car- I have three that were all burned at about the same time. So whenever I feel like it, I can pop them in and get deja vu from junior year of college…

I’m pretty sure I should hunt down ones from freshman year of highschool. That would just be awesome.

  9. No, actually, the highway to nothingness is the Ohio turnpike, or whatever road that is I drove on through Ohio while going from Philly to South Bend. Nothing happening in Ohio (sorry to any readers from there, but your highway sucks). The only good thing was we stopped to get gas on a road named “Big Beaver Blvd.” which got quite a few laughs out of my brother and I.

I’m with Kelly (cause, apparently, we’re the same person); I love listening to old cheesy music. Two playlists on my ipod are boy bands and blonde girls (britney christina etc). Makes me cringe but still brings back great memories.

  10. i would buy that megabutter :) have you seen the big jars in Costco? imagine doing oatmeal in one of those suckers! you could feed an army!

    have a safe drive.

  11. I’m with you…I just can’t get behind the yoga craze!! I know it’s good for me but blahhh. I am just waiting for the moment when I see the light :) .

    Enjoy your trip…be safe lady!

  12. the title of this post is EXACTLY how i feel haha!

have a safe trip and definitely have fun :)

  13. Mmm OIAJ! I’m so jealous. It’s pretty sad when your ideal present would be an almost empty jar of nut butter. Cute cartoon!!!
I’ve been having SUPER weird dreams too!!!! At least now I know why ;)
Have a safe trip!! I can imagine that must be extremely boring. Children of the corn…yikes. I hate taking long drives by myself. Freaks me out!! I usually stay entertained with music and singing. Which earns you some strange looks but whatever.
Good excuse to go to TJ’s!! I’d take ANY excuse ha!
And I’m glad your leg held up for yoga!!! Baby steps…
    Love ya!

  14. You’re the 2nd person today who made oats in a jar (3rd if you count oats in a yogurt container!) and now I’m craving them!! I have a 2kg (5lb?) jar of peanut butter at home, perhaps I’ll have some sort of oats party when that jar is almost empty. And then, on to the megaaaa butterrrrrrr! I am going to be singing that all afternoon, but hey, it’s the day before the long weekend, who cares?!
    Happy Easter!!

  15. I WANT SOME MEGA BUTTER!!
I hope you know that now Im going to be singing about mega butter when I make oatmeal tomorrow morning. No wonder my boyfriend thinks Im a nutcase! lol

I didnt get any sleep either, I blame my noisy landlords.

    • Isn’t it awesome? And the best part is that I bet everyone is singing it differently. We should all get together and try to harmonize.

And I kinda giggled when you called yourself a “nutcase” when you’re talking about nut butter… hahahaha… I’m a dork.

  16. I want to love yoga, I really do, but it’s just hard for me to get into. Going to actual classes is better for me then doing it at home, though. Ugh, speaking of yoga I haven’t done it for weeks… I should probably do it today. *sigh*

  17. OH – I love yoga, but it took me awhile to get to that point.
    I used to HATE it!!

  18. While I don’t do it myself, I was going to tell you to look into books on tape/CD. Chelsea Handler would have been the perfect companion for your roadtrip…althought it would only be good if it’s her voice doing the recording. What about Ellen Degeneres? Not sure if you’re an Ellen fan or not.

Keep up with the Yoga, but like you I’m more of a cardio person myself. Spinning is my new addiction. A colleague showed me this article on Fly Yoga. Anyone ever tried it? http://chicago.timeout.com/articles/spas-gyms/83002/fly-yoga-class-at-id-gym-in-lincoln-park.

  19. That car brightened my day. Seriously.

Glad the yoga worked out, even if you’re not friends.

    Have a safe trip!

  20. no TJ’s in Canada …too bad :(

girl, i should do yoga…i do nothing else…but its like i just cannot concentrate…i just cant stand it…so only like 3x a week i do like 10 minutes…so bad…i should do more for physical and mental clarity..i guess i am bored with the same little short tape i have….and i know u can download some for free ,but its hard to see it on my laptop…excuses i guess….just no mentality for it..!

  21. I have to force myself to do yoga. Like last night. I wanted to go on a bike ride instead. Or sit on the couch. Either/or.

  22. I’ve yet to try yoga but I really want to. The only thing currently keeping me from it our my excuses.. :)

Haha.. I love that mega butter quote. xD

  23. I admit I didn’t care for yoga the first couple of times I tried it but it’s really grown on me since.

  24. I was on the road for 3 hours today as well.. but I was a passenger which is so nice. It was super windy today wasn’t it! Ugh it felt like the car was going to just flop on over. Hate windy traveling. Oh flat boring road trips through Missouri/Iowa.. yes!

Maybe yoga will grow on you slowly?

  25. I’ll bet it’s tough to but running on the back burner. If I had to put hockey on the back burner and resort to yoga and only yoga, I would be a sad pup. Really sad pup.

I take it you’re a Cards fan? :-/ (GO CUBS GO!)

Have a great weekend, and a safe trip to STL!

  26. Haha, love your relationship with yoga and running! I was laughing out loud. You’re hilarious!
And don’t even mention Children of the Corn! I was so scared of that movie (and all the million sequels!).
Want to have our own Easter together? We could just stuff egg shells with nut butter and feast!
