Anyone else ever play “Power Hour” in college? Did anyone ever actually make it through? I feel like I never lasted long. Usually I’d say “screw it” at some point and drink when I felt like it. Even early on I wasn’t a big fan of structure… go figure. :p
However, I had my power hour at the gym last night. 28 minutes on the elliptical. Why 28? Who knows… it just felt like a good number to end on. Weights. More weights. Stairmill (or as Mon would say, “stair demon”) for 16. And then ending with the ab work. Normally I like to throw a mile or so on the treadmill in there as well, but the gym was strangely crowded and I didn’t feel participating in the “who’s gonna jump on the good ‘mill first when this dude gets off” game that was being played.
Plus I had a Thirsty Thursday date with Mon. We gossiped as we drank a couple Goose Islands… what’s new?
I honestly don’t have much to say today. Knowing me and my mouth, that’s kind of strange. It’s my rest day. Hopefully work will fly. And I’ll be staying with a friend in Wrigleyville so we can drive together to the Girls on the Run 5k early tomorrow morning because we’re both volunteering.
We may be getting up early tomorrow, but we’re still planning to go out for a drink or two to watch the Hawks game somewhere- gotta show Chicago pride, right?
So with that, happy Friday! Here’s how I started mine out:
I once again broke out the dessert oatmeal! A little Special K underneath, coconut, peanut butter, and white chocolate chips. And this is how it made me feel:
I hope this is how I continue to feel about my breakfast. I think the milk might be starting to get bad. Ok, it could have been bad… but lets not dwell on that fact. I clearly need to go grocery shopping.
Have a good weekend, kids!

You are so gorgeous!!! I wish I looked that good in the morning haha
Your oats sound delicious!!! Bad milk.. let’s hope not.
So far so good- I think the damage would have already been done if I were gonna have issues… ha ha. Thank you stomach of steel.
Okay…I have to say it…GORGEOUS HAIR! Haha…did you really think I wouldn’t say something?!
Thanks, too, for your sweet words on my blog this morning Amy. It meant a lot and I am trying to be thankful for what I am still able to do! Have a great Friday!
Of course, my dear! You are a serious rockstar. Let the body mend and you’ll be back and kicking ass on that treadmill in no time!
I can’t tell if you actually eat at all or if you’re just eating like a little kid – SUGAR!
Getting cracked out on the majority of my daily sugar allowance early on in the day is sometimes just necessary. Ok fine… usually necessary. I totally eat like a kid. ha…
The Stairmaster is my greatest gym opponent. No matter how in shape I am, it laughs in my face, and I sweat so much that I almost fall off. Haha.
I know what you mean- probably why I never do too much time on it… I’d slip and fall. For real.
Looking beautiful this morning! Love that pic of you.
great picture. you look happy and beautiful! if that’s what dessert oats makes a person look like then i’m going to eat it all day every day! haha
as for power hour. well i’d make it through about 5 minutes then get bored haha
You are beautiful, girl!
I did power hours in college…a lot. I still have power hour music on my iPod….I chuckle every time it comes on. I don’t think there’s any way I could make it through an hour now, but I would sure try! Have a good weekend!
ha- I used to have them on mine before the iPod hit the dust… I bet it’d be a great mix to workout to, though! hmm…
I’m going out to have drinks with the girls while showing some Hawk pride, as well. I always get anxiety attackes during the last 5 minutes of the game. I’m thinking cocktails will help:)
Go Hawks!!!
A good breakfast always puts a smile on my face, too (and you look so gorgeous, btw… can I have your hair?), and I hope that you keep smiling throughout the day.
Bad food is seriously like one of my biggest fears, which is weird because I’ll eat things past their expiration date as long as they smell/taste/look okay… I’ve managed to avoid getting in trouble from that kind of mentality up ’till now, but I’m just waiting to see how much longer until my luck runs out…
Yeah… I’m weird about some things, not so crazy about others. I smelled the milk after I had already started the oatmeal- which is why I fear it was bad. But at that point, I just shrugged and figured I’d see what happened. So far so good… I think I’m in the clear!
Cute pic! LOVE your hair!
I love a good breakfast to start the day!! Hopefully your milk wasn’t too bad!!
i think im feeling like that just looking at that breakfast!
hmm ive never heard of power hour… id be interested in playing tho thats for sure hehe
<3 have a beautiful FRIDAYYYYY
1- loved power hours
2- lovvvve your sweet oats
3- you are beeeaaauuuuutiful!
4- you are the sweetest!
Dessert breakfast sounds like a fantastic idea!! Love it.
Sounds like you need to join the “Grocery Trip” club!
I love the pile of coconut. So yummy.
Purdy pick-cher!
Your hair looks so pretty in these pictures! You should see mine while I’m eating breakfast, or anytime actually. It is nowhere as nice as yours!
I need to take some “come back” lessons from you. Love your comment today! I am going to remember to mention my baby daddy and my coke addiction next time someone has a comment about my only child.
Ha ha… now you have a good one. My problem is I’m always 10 seconds too late… so people ask “did you really say that?” “No, but I should have!”. ugh… it’s all about the timing!
Definitely enjoyed a power hour or two in my college days
And your dessert oats look AMAZING!!!!
haha ah power hours : ) I have way too short of an attention span. At the beginning, I can’t wait for the minute to go by before having a sip and then at the end I’m just bored of the game entirely haha
Exactly. It seems like such a good idea in theory… but never turns out well.
I lovvvvvvvve power hours! I made one of solely Michael Jackson songs for my birthday last year. IT was fantastic!
hahahahaha!! I realized this morning that the kefir I’ve been throwing into my oats every day expired on May 31st. Oops!
Eh… it’s all good. ha ha
I only attempted that game once, and I wound up sleeping in our recycling bin that night. I wouldn’t have known that had there not been photographic evidence. Clearly, I am not a Power Hour pro.
I love the addition of white choc chips to your oats. Sounds delicious!
Oh that’s rough… I would have hung up my hat after that one as well…
I love that you and your Mom have dates – so cute!! I could never make it through a full power hour in college either. It really is so much harder than it looks lol. I LOVE your hair in that picture girl, you look beautiful!!
It’s actually my friend Monica… Mon for short. :p But yes, we find our weekly dates very important… and fun!
We use to power hour with wine in college. Yes, we were very classy. Also, wine + power hour = bad idea.
That sounds like something I would try. Like in the near future… ha
Haha power hour, not gonna lie I did it a few months ago with friends. It’s still as fun now as it was in college! Love your hair, mine did not look like that when I tried my new curling iron yesterday.
Don’t worry- seriously, practice makes perfect! It took a while for me to get good at it, too!
love thirsty thursdays! what a great tradition
happy friday
Never thought of the dessert oatmeal – fabulous idea. LOL at the 28 mins, I always have to have my workouts end in increments of 5, no idea why. Happy weekend!
Usually I do the increments of 5, too- I’m kind of weird about it. But never when I get on the elliptical!
Power Hour (the college version) is always the death of me! In the most fun way possible, of course. =P
I am loving those desserty oats!!
how pretty you are! especially with the finger on the dimple!
OMG those oats look so decadent. I would be smiling also if I had that beautiful dish as well.
Oh, Power Hour. Sigh. I know I did Power Hour but unfortunately, most of the time went throughout the whole hour and really don’t remember a whole lot from them. My liver still hates me for that.
girl your hair looks AWESOME!!!
LOVE the dessert oatmeal – I need to try that! So jealous of your gorgeous locks too.
At first I read “Mom” instead of “Mom” and thought “oh that’s pretty cute that she meets her mom for a drink
oh my gosh – your dessert oats look SO GOOD
love white chocolate chips!!
your hair is really pretty by the way.
Never partook in the power hour (remember, super stubborn?). Don’t like being told what to do haha. Although one of my friend’s friends made a DVD that was pretty creative. But I sat there and drank whenever the hell I wanted to.
Also I highly doubt anything could make me that happy in the morning.
Yeah… I would have joined you on the sidelines half way through. We prolly would have the better time… :p
Oh I made it threw an entire power hour once way back in my drinking days. I didn’t wake up the next morning until 1 o’clock. And by wake up I mean come out of my coma. But I made it and that’s all that really matters. That I’m a winner.
1) love the hair!!!
2) I never did a power hour in college…but I feel like I need to do that now. Perhaps by myself this weekend.
I love power hour. In college we played a ton. At one point I could drink so much we played power hour and a half (90 min) and THEN went out to the bars. I can’t even imagine doing that now!
