Hello kids! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was a perfect balance between having things to do and relaxing. After you last heard from me, I was pretty much worthless the rest of Saturday. I did get myself up for yoga. But then quickly settled back down with the movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. I sort of agree with Kelly in my opinion of it. It was ok. Not really my style. And I feel like a few parts could have gone more in-depth? But I guess that’s somewhat expected when one of the main characters dies mid-shoot. I still miss you, Heath Ledger. My poster of you from A Knight’s Tale will never be thrown away. Ever…
Sunday was a good day. I still lacked a little sleep (seriously- I have no idea how I function when this happens. It’s odd.) Either way, I headed out in the morning for a run. I considered a new trail that is a seven-mile loop, but the skies were looking threatening and I wanted the option of a quick trip back to my car if absolutely necessary. So I stuck to my smaller trail. I’m a creature of habit.
6.5 miles. I was a little slower than usual (8:48), but couldn’t have asked for a better run. The temperatures were perfect, it wasn’t too muggy at that point (good thing I’m an early bird because it got a little gross later on in the day), and I just zoned out into my own happy little world. Usually this does not happen. But I guess I had a lot on my mind?
Are you one to zone out on runs? Or are you focusing on something the entire time?
The zoning was apparently more intense than I realized. At one point, I realized I was less than four feet away from a deer on the side of the trail. I was definitely more surprised than she was. My heart jumped and I gasped out of surprise. She just stared at me. If I wasn’t so unwilling to break my pace, I would have stopped and had a stare down. Ok, not really, but usually they’re quick to run away. This one was just giving me a “whatchu lookin’ at, fool?”. Deer with an attitude. I like it. Go on with your bad self…
I also should have paid more attention to the feeling in my feet. The last mile was when I noticed the serious rubbing of one of my toes. “Well there’s not much I can do about it now”, I thought. Actually yeah there was- I could probably have stopped. Because now I have a killer blister on my big and second toes on my left foot. Killer. My Disney Princess band aids are currently being put to work. And I’m not quite sure how it’s going to feel for my run tonight. I’m going to try and protect them as much as I can without getting ridiculous. Usually I’m just one to pull out the band aids, but does anyone ever use that “second skin” stuff? Does it actually work? I’m curious…
I also did another session of Yoga Meltdown (Level 1 this time vs. Level 2 on Saturday). Still working on the crow pose. Can’t do it for more than three seconds, but I also didn’t fall on my face this time. So we can call it a win…
Food has been focused around some more veggie lovin’.
I think the asparagus wrap thing is seriously changing my life. Is it the asparagus? Or the cheese? I couldn’t tell you. But whatever it is, it’s working.
I also broke out the edamame hummus I bought from Trader Joe’s. Like I said- I thought I’d like it way more than I do. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like it at all! It is still good. Especially with cauliflower. Just so you know.
And when I made my obnoxiously large-for-no-reason trip to Target, I finally snagged some of these:
I saw sooooo many people trying them out. And they are quite good! I love that M&M’s are starting to really mix it up with all the flavors.
Last night I traveled to a nearby town for my friend Annie’s dance recital (she’s a dance teacher). Her birthday is today (Happy birthday, Annie!), and since I couldn’t see her today, I wanted to hang out with her one last time beforehand. Plus, she’s going on hiatus as a dance teacher for a while, so I wanted to be there to check out her last show.
It was super cute and I may be a bit bias, but I just LOVED the dances she choreographed. Annie pretty much rocks. One of the classes she teaches is hip hop. And that’s why I’m always a little embarrassed of my mediocre dance moves when we go out…. ha ha. What… is the robot not cool anymore?
By the way, she said they all loved the cake I baked for her. Sweet!
So the World Cup started, and can I say I’m just not a huge fan of soccer? Am I the only one out there? I try to get into it, but it’s just not my thing. Don’t get me wrong- I have a huge admiration for the athletes in the sport (I think it’s one of the sports that calls for a crazy amount of endurance and strength). And I think it’s awesome that people get that passionate about it. But I’m just not into it…. No idea why. Maybe because I grew up in an area where soccer really wasn’t that popular? I was a tee-ball kid. All the way. Oh well. I tried…
Happy Monday!

Must get some of those M&Ms, they sound awesome.
I love soccer because well, I grew up watching it. Plus, umm the players are totally hot, haha.
I will give you the hotness factor- hellllloooooo Cristiano!
Oh dear lord…preztel M&M’s…I didn’t know about these! How awesome! I am going to be on the hunt now!!
Have a great Monday girl!
Target. They have them there. In the land of plenty… lol
Right? I think it definitely had the potential to be much better, but I agree about a Knight’s Tail, so good. In high school I tried to convince our teacher to let us watch that instead of reading Canterbury Tails. It didn’t fly.
That would have been awesome! I don’t even want to think about how many times I’ve actually seen that movie… it’s kind of sad.
i totally zone out on most of my runs and i’ve had that same experience with deer before too! it always scares me sooooo badly. i’m surprised my heart is still functioning! hah
half the people out there are faking it I suspect, or looking for an excuse to drink in the morning! LOL
hmmm…. turns out they’re all possibly outsmarting me! I need to get into soccer… er… morning drinking…
Was it weird to see Heath playing the lead role and then other actors take over his spot? at least I think that’s what they did…
I love those pretzel M & M’s. so tasty.
I’m not a huge fan of soccer–I watched SOME of the game on Saturday but not a lot. The constant buzzing sound in the background annoys the heck out of me!
The way the movie story went, it actually worked really well. And I won’t complain about Johnny Depp being in a movie… he he he
I just love Asparagus! That wrap looks phenom! & Although I am a bit biased about the World Cup because Soccer is my favorite sport to play (but not particularly watch) I’ll admit watching the US game was SO boring…i almost fell asleep a few times..you’re DEF not the only one who doesn’t like it!
I don’t usually zone out during runs but I think that’s because I don’t run long enough to do so, ha. (I typically run about 3 miles).
Also the crunch of asparagus in a wrap is just the bees knees!! Who would have thunk?!
And I will ALWAYS smile when I see mizzou garb in your bloggy
Yep. I think mile 3 is about where the mind checks out.
And just wait for football season to start up again. I need more Mizzou dinnerware!
I am not really a runner; I’m a beginner. So I’m always thinking about how tired and out of shape I am in. I hope I get to the point where I just zone out.
I am obsessed with dark chocolate M&Ms.
Stick with it long enough, and the zoning will happen. I assure you!
And the dark chocolate ones are delish. They also have some with white chocolate in the middle… oh geez
Haven’t seen those pretzel M&Ms but since my fave candy is chocolate or yogurt covered pretzels (or any other salty sweet combos) I will definitely be NEEDING some soon. I’ll check out Target.
I have used the bandaid advanced healing blister cushions and they work really well. They have some specifically for fingers and toes so you can wrap them around and they stick really well.
Oh sweet! I’ll be checking them out then this week. I feel like they’ll be used often in the near future…
Oh man, I am all about the World Cup. I have been up at 6:30 for almost every game. Perhaps I’m lame!
A lot of my friends have been doing that. If it’s your thing, more power to you!
I feel the same way about Heath Ledger… I was so sad when he died, and it’s still kind of weird to watch a movie with him in it.
And I feel ya on the whole World Cup thing. I get the passion and excitement, but I don’t get the passion and excitement, if you know what I mean… I think it’s a wonderful sport, but I think I’m more a hockey kind of girl. I blame being Canadian…
Soccer is soooooo boring to me, especially after all the hockey excitement!!!
BTW..inbox me the info on that 10k in July if you have a second so I can check it out…sounds fun!!!

adventures in tri-ing
I do zone out while running, but it’s zoning out in a a good way. Not having to worry about anything and just feeling free & good
omg pretzel M&Ms…could this be the perfect combo? Sweet n’ salty! yum!! Oh and I love your asparagus wrap! Asparagus is the perfect veggie no?
It really is. You can kind of sneak it into almost anything. Or eat it by itself… amazing.
sometimes i zone out when im not trying to but when i want to zone out and forget that my legs are really dragging, it never works
pretzel m&m’s, seriously? never heard of them, now im going on a hunt for them.
I’ve only seen the pretzel M&M once (at Target!), and did not get them… I was buying M&Ms for my own chocolate pretzel things… I hear about so many people trying them, and I want to
again, that asparagus wrap? so yum. I must do that also!
I definitely zone out while running outside… but not to the extent of close-ups with deer! A bug flew in my mouth once
I sympathize with the bug issue. Ah the hazards of running outdoors…
Ahh I still miss Heath too! I loved “Ten Things I Hate About You.” And those pretzel m&ms are ballin
That was one of my fav teeny-bopper movies of all time. Or it probably still is- won’t lie.
I totally did not give a hoot about the world cup.
Yoga meltdown (level 1) made an appearance during my weekend as well! I loves! I do have a tendency to zone out when I run. It’s my escape time I guess!!
Have you tried the coconut m&ms? KILLER.
YES. And they’re so good, too! I’m a bit of a coconut whore…
That’s one of my favorite things about running outside…some time to just totally zone out! That’s why I usually leave my iPod at home…can’t beat some proper thinking time

I’m not a soccer fan either haha. I love zoning out during my runs but I’ve never come close to hitting a wild animal hehe.
A couple of things: LOVE the pretzel M&Ms, they’re sooooooo good.
I also zoned out on a run last week. I was going and all of a sudden I realized I was almost home after 4ish miles. Then a pack of stray dogs (ok, more like 2) came up towards me. I love dogs, but for some reason I shrieked and sprinted all the way home. Weird.
And I’m not a huge soccer fan either. It’s different when you’re actually AT a game, how crazy all the fans get in Europe. But sorry, nothing will replace baseball in my book.
ha ha… “A pack” sounds more bad ass, though.
I can’t imagine being at a game- I’m sure it’s a much better experience… I’d probably even enjoy it!
i love the pretzel m&ms. have you had the coconut? i haven’t tried those yet. i think they are in a white bag.
They are the white bag- my friend and I bought them after being out for drinks. And then went back into the Walgreens to purchase a second bag when we realized how good they were…
again i love your wrap and i have never seen those m and m’s-YUM. sounds like you had a great trail run too
i’m not a huge mnm’s fan but whenever i see them in a blog i begin to crave them!!! xx
I’m dying to try those pretzel M&Ms!
LOVE how you got the pretzel M&M’s! They’re awesome, aren’t they??
Your asparagus wrap looks quite intriguing…I may have to try that one!
I zone out all the time when Im running. Thats just me though – Im always in my own world!
Im not into soccer either – the only good thing about the sport is David Beckham.
You need to google Cristiano Ronaldo. There are two good things about soccer, my friend…
oooooo loving the creative minds over at m&m! what will they come up with next?! i guess i need to go to target.
i’m with you on the world cup/soccer. i tried but i could NOT get past the awful humming of the horns UGH.
i zone out even when not exercising.. im such a space head LOL
omg im gonna post my rice crispy squares tonight.. which have M&M minis in them!!!! <3
Sweet! I loved the mini ones! Maybe because when I was little I was equally fascinated that they came in a tube!
Pretzel m&ms!!?? I haven’t seen or heard of those…must rind. Loving the asparagus wrap idea…dumb question though, do you cook them or eat raw? I’ve never tried raw asparagus before…
Oh I definitely roasted it for a few minutes. I guess I should have elaborated on that one! I don’t think I would enjoy it much raw, either…
SSHH don’t tell my husband about those M&Ms. That will kill him now that he has celiac! Those would be his two loves…next to beer and box wine! I wish I had that asparagus wrap about now! I am hungry and don’t plan to make anything to fix it. We don’t watch sports here so, no I have definitely not gotten into it. Oh well, hope your blister gets better. I can’t seem to get mine from mowing the lawn to heal. I am such a girl…it hits right where I use my thumb to put my hair in a pony tail! Have a great evening!
Blisters form in some of the worst places… it’s just like a paper cut that happens btwn the fingers or something. More of a pain than you’d think!
So my mom came home with those M&M’s before, placed them in a bowl and were gone in 3 hours. They are good ha!
okay i REALLY need to jump on the pretzel m & m bandwagon!
I probably screamed if I saw a deer that close on a run and wasn’t expecting it!!!
Mmmmm…pretzel M&M’s!! I wasn’t sure I was a fan at first, but a few bags later and I really do like them!!
I’m not a soccer person either. I tried playing it for awhile when I was younger but I never got the hang of things.. yeah, I wasn’t and still am not the brightest person when it comes to sports. They just don’t click for me. Running is good because all you do is run.
I definitely zone out ALL the time. Like, I’ll be doing a run and then wonder why I’m almost already done. It’s sweet.
pretzel M&M’s?!?!?! Where have I been?!?!
I love asparagus and in a wrap sounds phenom!!! it is such a great summery veggie, thrown on the grill, its perfect!
I think it definitely depends on my mood/what else is going on in my life but I’d say I’m mostly a “zone out” kind of runner. I could definitely see myself running into a deer or something.
Pretzel M&M’s?!?! I am ready to die right here in my chair!!! I have to try them!
Glad you had a good weekend love!
I don’t have a running style because I still haven’t started running yet
i love zoning out when i run. i forget about the miles/time and just GO! when i focus too much, i just want to stop.
i didnt think that movie was great either. realllly freaking random.
Shut Up with those M&Ms. Seriously, I will not be able to stop thinking about them until I get my greedy little hands on a bag…or three.
Also, I am jealous of how quickly you can run. And the fact that you zone out at that speed just amazes me. I mean, I have so much trouble just keeping my mind busy at my slow jog! I have never been so into it that I wouldn’t notice a deer, either. And if I ever did, I would jump a mile high and probably crap my pants – seriously – I have a HUGE fear of deer.
