Seven Miles

Oh what an original title I’ve got today…  I’m sure you have absolutely no idea what I’m alluding to.

Either way, first things first.  Let’s talk about how I fell asleep on my sofa last night at 10:30.  Lame.  Why so lame? Not because it was a Friday night and I should be out socializing, but because I was in the middle of a movie.  I was watching Invictus (a pickup from Red Box), and really was enjoying it.  I’m not always the biggest fan of Morgan Freeman, but he was great. Matt Damon usually is a favorite eye candy of mine, but I do have to say in this movie, he bulked up and was only so-so in my radar.  I’m more for tall and lean.  Just a preference.  Either way, I finally just stopped fighting all the exhaustion that had just hit me like a pile of bricks as soon as I got home from the gym.  I woke up at the end of it, but turned it off immediately and went to bed so I could finish it without knowing what happens (which I did get to see this morning).

Before my movie fail last night, I did do what I had guessed I would.  Wine and The Soup.  Actually, it was wine, The Soup, and a mushroom quesadilla.  Weird combination (on all accounts) but it was fantastic. Then again, cheese makes everything fantastic.

This morning I geared up for that seven miles I was talking about.  Won’t lie- when I saw it was already 80 degrees when I left the house, I got a wee bit nervous.  I did, however, plan ahead and packed plenty of water in my car so that I could stop and hydrate during one of my three loops on the trail if necessary.  Clearly, it was necessary.  I did neglect to bring any other form of energy with me.  This was a mistake because my last two miles sweating it out in the sun were pretty sluggish.  I finished the 7 miles at almost exactly an hour.  Evidence of my run is all in the tan line it left.  Even with the sunscreen (I’m being such a good girl!).

Thoughts?  Other than needing to pick up some energy blocks or that of a similar nature, I think it went ok.  The pace was lacking a bit, but I’m going to overlook that for now.  I was sluggish at the end, but not crawling.  So I’ll consider it a win.

And I tried out my new Champion running shorts- I’ve never had actual running shorts with the inner lining.  I know, I know- crazy, but they kind of weirded me out. Then I saw them on sale during one of my many trips to Target.  They were freaking amazing.  And I need to acquire more.

I also need to not plan a quick stop by the grocery store for after a long run.  The cashier looked less than thrilled to be helping the sweaty mess of a person that I was.  Sorry lady.

There was a little soreness in my hips, but nothing that a little yoga didn’t seem to take care of.  I’m good as new.  :)

I pulled a ghetto-fabulous move and sunbathed on my balcony this afternoon.  I would have trekked to the pool, but I was still pretty gross from the earlier run.  I decided to do humanity a favor and keep to myself until I had showered.

You’re welcome.

I’m showered now and will be out enjoying the rest of my day.  I hope you all are doing the same (shower not required, but preferred).

  1. gosh it was hot to run 7 miles-you did great! yes bring some blocks or gus next time…..enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  2. OK, her ya go…I have not worked out today and have not yet showered! Yeah, that’s me…the gross chick still not folding laundry! Have a great time tonight…I am hoping mine involves a shower and a good movie!

  3. ummm you are so not lame. last night rather than going out i had a hot date with my study materials. oops. and i really was surprised by how much i liked invictus. definitely a good movie

  4. hahahah :) I like to bring Honey Stingers on long runs with me. They’re like pomegranate passion gummies. Pretty good :) I only end up consuming half of the package though and I think it does the trick.

  5. great run!

  6. Congrats on the great run! And – if it makes you feel any better – movies alllways put me to sleep! haha.
I can totally relate to going out in public as a sweaty mess, except I think I may be even more of a disgrace. Not only do I tend to look like I’ve been through hell and back – I’ve also got a lovely horse aroma to go along with it ;) Although, usually I’d be with my trainer – who is equally as grimey. Double trouble!
Hope you enjoyed the rest of the afternoon!

  7. Hey now… I consider 10:30 staying up late ;) But I wake up at 5:30, so I guess that could be why. And I completely agree about men needing to be tall and lean… I’ll take that over stocky and buff any day.

Congrats on the seven miles, girl! Impressive. You can always bring dried fruit, like apricot or dates, to give you energy for your runs. I know they always manage to give me a little boost when I’m feeling low.

  8. I love The Soup.

Oh, and CONGRATS. I hope to run 7 miles some day :)

  9. Showers are also preferred, I wish my stinky coworker would take one.

Awesome job on the run! I just cant get into the cardio in hot weather thing going on so looks like I am doing inside stuff until October.

And nothing wrong with shroomie quesadillas—sounds great actually. Pair that up with some Joel McHale and I think that has a name….heaven!

  10. I am more of a long and lean kind of gal myself when it comes to the opposite sex! I will have to check that movie out, and don’t feel bad, I was in bed early last night too lol. 7 miles? Girl, you are my idol lol!

  11. I love anything with cheese on it or in it. We had quesadillas tonight for dinner, and they couldn’t have been more perfect. And I’m so impressed with your running…very inspirational!

  12. Way to go with the run!!

Your Friday night wasn’t lame!! Friday nights should be spent on the couch with wine…after a long week I need that Friday night to relax!!!

  13. Haha, love your Friday night, sounds a lot like Saturday for me. However, it’s a proven fact that I’m lame. I’m pretty sure you are still awesome!

  14. Target’s Champion line is the best…I have had a pair of their running shorts for no less than 7 years. Yes 7 years! And they are still in perfect condition.

  15. I think your run looks great! The sluggishness is also part of heat adjustment. Running in 80 degree plus weather is hard on your body and it takes a few weeks to get more acclimated. Just continue to take in lots of liquid on the runs and your body will catch up in no time.

  16. Okay you and I are on the same wave length this week. First with the sweet potato gnocchi and then we watched Invictis on Friday night too!! What’s going on here!?! haha! Awesome run too! :)

  17. Good job on the run! I recommend Clif Shot Blocks, they’re my fave.

  18. LOL! We watched Invictus Friday night too! We also enjoyed it! (And we went to see Knight & Day n the theater on Sat. and thought it was very funny and entertaining!).

I love those Champion shorts. Ha, mine are too small right now, but I will get back in to them by end of summer, I am sure.

I like it when I can loop back to the car to grab water. So much better than wearing a belt!

  19. Hey, bathing on a balcony is not ghetto fabulous! It’s just… convenient. =P
Can’t believe you ran 7 miles in that hot weather! Impressive!

  20. oops.. I meant SUNbathing! hahaha

  21. 7 already? Nice job! I’m about to start attempting 4, ugh we’ll see how it goes. And I loved Invictus!

  22. the shorts with the built in undies always weirded me out too. i bought my first pair the other week and i have bought two since…i will never go back. so comfortable.

as for mid run energy…i like the jelly bean type things. i am totally blanking on the name! the shot blocks are good too. i am not a “gu” person but ppl like that stuff. these things do work magic though so i strongly urge you to try them out as you increase your mileage! congrats on the big 7
