We made it to Wednesday! (Insert sigh of relief)
Why does this excite me so much? Because we have a staff outting to the Cubs game today! Sure… the Cubs are sort of um… having difficulties this season. And sure, they’re not playing the best team (I think Pittsburgh may be in last place if we’re getting technical about it). But you know what? I don’t care. I love baseball. And I may not be a fan of the Cubs (Go Cards! Holla’!). But you can’t be a fan of baseball without being a fan of Wrigley Field. It’s iconic. It’s the epitome of watching a summer baseball game. It’s freaking Wrigley Field, people!
If you love it so much, why don’t you just marry it?
Fine, I’ll hush…
Either way, I’m going. And am pretty stoked. If you didn’t pick up on that.
If you’re a sports fan, who’s your team? Don’t be shy… it’s all love here.
As you can imagine, this would include a day of travel and an adult beverage or two. So I will again be switching up my days so that today is a rest day (instead of my usual Thursday). That’s right- mixing it up again. Oooohhhh this girl is crazy!
Oh and let’s talk a little more about the “fake chicken” I tried out the other night. I also had it for my salad over lunch yesterday.
Yep… still not enjoying it. I tried. I did. I’m sorry- we can’t be friends. I may try an alternative brand, but will shy away from this one for good. Thanks for all the suggestions yesterday- I feel if I do try another “meatless meat”, I’ll be going to a different brand. But it won’t be for a while- I’m just not sure if I’m cut out for it or not.
The rest day is well deserved, by the way. Last night was intense! Like I mentioned last time, I met up with Phampants for a run. We couldn’t have asked for better weather- we’ve experienced a cooldown and I’m sure it wasn’t much above 70 degrees by the time we got out there. We got down to business right away. And started out with a decent pace. Considering I hate the first mile of any run, it was definitely a good kickstart that I usually don’t have.
I checked my Nike+ a few times and was surprised at how fast we were going. Pham didn’t quite believe me but when we stopped for a quick drink of water after the first loop on the trail, we did the math to double check. The time doesn’t lie. And we definitely did about 2.7 miles with just under an 8-minute pace. Yeah- we were pushing a serious pace.
The second loop was a little slower. Just a little… our final stats were just under 5.5 miles with an 8:07 pace. We both agree my Nike+ is probably a little off, but still. Damn. That’s faster than any of the runs I’ve done as of late. Pham brought up the thought of going maybe another mile. I did have to decline on that one. I won’t lie- another mile or so at that speed may have also welcomed the return of that god awful fake chicken I had for lunch (I’m serious about that stuff- it did not sit well!).
This is how awesome we felt about the run:
Yeah, I hit the ground. Ahhhh…
Thanks Pham. I think this was a good run for both of us. It was an extra mile I didn’t have on my training plan and it was an improved time for both of us. I think we both walked away wondering what time we might actually be crossing the finish line for the Rock n’ Roll Half at… Eyebrows are raised at the possibilities…
We’re planning to do 8 miles together in a couple weeks.
Oh dear…
Oh and today is Day #3 of new breakfasts! I seem to have made this a little event, haven’t I? It wasn’t my intention on Monday morning, but we’re just gonna roll with it…
I did a combo of both Monday and Tuesday- An oatmeal pancake and a mushroom scramble. I had a leftover pancake from yesterday, so I thought why not? This may be the winning combo. The eggs on Monday left me hungry before lunch. The pancakes on Tuesday left me feeling a little stuffed after all was said and done and was a little too much. I’m like freakin’ Goldilocks- this one was juuuuusssstttt right.
And that’s how I’m going to leave you- happy tummy and ready for the few hours of work before the game. It’s a good day.

Lol, Amy… I just have to laugh whenever I read your posts. They’re so entertaining! and congrats on the timeage. That’s fantastic!
Aw, thanks!
Ohhhh wow that mushroom scramble looks yummy!
And way to go on the pace! Super impressive
I’m so jealous of your outing today! I never played any sports, ever, in my life. However, I love being a spectator. I’ve been able to attend in NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB games. So fun!
I would love to catch a game in Wrigley Field, my Husband has and he just loved it.
I want to go to see an NFL and NBA game so badly!!!!
The Cubbies are having a rough time THIS season? As opposed to their brilliant past seasons? Whatever, office outings (on the office tab?) are awesome. So much fun that you met up with a blog friend for a run! Speaking of runs, sorry about that fake chicken. I’ll make sure it never hops into my cart at TJ’s.
This made me giggle a little- you’re right- it’s not a first for them at all… but I’m sympathetic to their cause (as a Cardinals fan I think this is MORE than generous!)
that’s such a cute pic of you! glad you got a good run in!
fav sport team….well we cheer for the indians, since we live here, but of course they suck. we are pirates fans, secondary to hubby being from the burgh originally, but they SUCK as well……we still cheer them on though! we have a minor league team called the lake erie crushers who are super fun to watch….and we LOVE thirsty thursdays! hello dollar drafts!
enjoy your hump day! xo
Well good for you that you cheer them on through the bad years! Fair weather fans are such posers… ha ha
hope you have lots of fun at the baseball game
such a great summer night activity!
mm your oatmeal pancake looks so good!
Wowza….what a run! Congrats on that one…that’s great!
Yes, the Cubs are sadly doing horribly this year, but there is something magical about Wrigley…it’s just stinkin’ awesome! I’m pumped for my trip there this summer…I just love it every time we go!
The coconut on top of the pancakes looks out of sight! YUM! Have a fun day at the Cubs game! In an effort to like Wednesday I am going to Old Navy…hahaha!
he he he… good for you to try and make your “crap day of the week” better! Enjoy shopping!
That breakfast does sound just right!
Great job on the run!
Dang girl, way to go on the run. I need to get my slow butt running that fast!
When are you doing your 8 miler? I have to do one for my half and I haaaate long runs by myself!!!!
Um, in two weeks? We’ve got a couple days we’re looking at in case of weather issues.
And if you ever want to schedule a run sometime, I’m game! But if it’s longer than 7 or 8, I will require a trip to eat out after… lol
Whenever you pick a date, let me know! I’m one of those lucky people who doesn’t have to work in the summer, so I am available a lot! I’ll bring you a granola bar, does that work?
It’s been a bit crazy here, so I’ll have to sit and figure it out… lol But I’m totally cool for a run. We need to get it done!
I got so excited to say something about the run that I forgot to tell you something… Cubbies drool, White Sox rule!!!!!
Have fun at the biggest beer garden on earth aka Wrigley Field!
Great job on the run…sounds like you are back in running form!!!
Courtney
adventures in tri-ing
I finally feel like myself again! ha ha… the injury is just a fleeting memory now.
I’m so glad it’s Wednesday as well. Tuesday almost killed me! Have a great time at the game tonight, girl! I’ve never really been able to get into baseball… it must be an American thing. Up here in Canada, we’re hockey people
The Oilers are my boys… even though they’re not very good, I stay a loyal hometown fan… most of the time.
It really did… but I’m glad you survived!
Hockey is cool- I’m not soooo crazy about it, but I’m down with the blackhawks (it helps that they’re awesome).
you totally are going to rock this half
woooooooot
have fun at the game. i’ve VERY jealous!
I’m not a sports fan at all. My poor boyfriend was so disappointed when he found that out. But I’m still jealous of your outing!
That was a fast run!! Holy! Awesome job.
[...] and as for Amy, she’s fine. She doesn’t hate me yet for the extra miles. Heck, we even scheduled an 8 miler in a couple weeks. She’ll hate me then. But [...]
a staff outing to a cubs game?! Love that!
I used to work for a triple A baseball team and I LOVED getting to watch games everyday–plus, I mean, free hot dogs! cmon!
That would be so much fun! I missed out on all the good summer jobs as a teenager…
Aww have fun at the cubs game today!! I am a Yankees fan (don’t hate!!). Glad you had good weather and a good partner for your run!
xoxo
ha ha– can’t hate. Because I said I wouldn’t… I’m not a fan of the yankees in any way, but they’re quite the legacy. That is for certain.
Oh last night was a fantastic run! Thanks for pushing me. I look forward for our 8 miler!
Oh yeah, I was totally trying to figure out what our projected half marathon time would be. We can better gage after our 10, I mean 8 miler
If you think you’re going to sneak in another two miles, you’ve got another thing coming! ha ha
I love mushrooms in eggs. Something so good about them.
Congrats on that run. It sure sounded like a great one. Feeling accomplished after a workout is so rewarding.
I’m loving your picture…you do NOT look like you just ran 5.5 miles…maybe it was your camera!
Has to be. Because I was sweaty and flushed for sure. Must be a good setting…
i’m a yankee fan at heart. born and raised in nj, can’t swing it any other way. now i live in new england…i’m not a red sox fan but i also won’t turn down a game. <3 baseball.
have fun at the game tonight!! mmm peanuts and soft pretzels and beer
That’s how I am. I’m a born and raised Cardinals fan. But I would never pass up the chance to go to agame!
For what its worth, The RNR half course is pretty fast, though tactically I found it was a bit annoying since you run a good stretch on the bike path thats windy and a bit crowded. So get towards the front of your corral! (I lucked out and was in the 1st one last year, so avoided congestion) Wish I was out there to run it again this year…
That would have been awesome if you could have made it to the Chi for it! You could have finished the race, gone and picked up coffee, come back, waited, find a place to warm up the coffee, and then I’d have some caffeine to drink as soon as I finished… lol
Thank goodness today is Wednesday. This means I only have 1 more day to go to the 4 day weekend.
I am not a big fan of fake meats. I kinda look at them as highly processed item. Was there a reason you were trying fake meat?
No reason other than curiousity.
There’s a reason why there is now the phrase “curiousity kills the cat”…
ewewew i can’t do fake chicken. it really freaks me out. i don’t like chewing it.
i have been eating a lot of leftover pancakes lately. is it weird that i prefer them cold now!?
Not at all. I’ve done it before. Sometimes I prefer it that way depending on what I’m eating it with!
That breakfast does look just right.
You are funny, you know.
Great job on the run! I love it…you had both! Great idea! Enjoy your day today. Going to a game is definitely one way to get over hump day!
How fun that you have something exciting to look forward to! I totally agree, nothing says “summer” like a baseball game – I love them so much.
Good job on that run, too! Whohoo!
I am a sweaty beast after working out. Why do you look cute?
have you tried smart dogs made of tofu. I love them!
That I have not. I don’t mind tofu really, so it’s funny that I found the chickenless strips anything but tolerable… Maybe I just like tofu better because there’s less processing involved? Maybe…
No tofu taste at all..they look and (somewhat) taste like a hot dog…really yummy with lots of BBQ sauce to dip in or some ketchup and spicy mustard
You can get them at TJs for cheaper than the grocery store (fyi)
I’ve never been to Wrigley field, but even though I don’t care for the cubs I totally want to go. My SIL is from Chicago, so I’m hoping I’ll make it someday. Have fun!
My team is the Oklahoma Sooners – college football, it’s the only sport I truly follow.
It’s truly awesome.
And I’m down with the college football. But I’m a Mizzou girl… so we kind of don’t like you guys much… :p
I’m a recent baseball fan and my team is USC. Ok, so it’s college baseball and not major league baseball but whatever… they won the NCAA championship last night after freaking 11 innings.. but it was a pretty awesome game!
I am not a fan of meatless meats either…in fact, they scare me! Your breakfast looked perfect.
You don’t even look like you were sweating at the end of that! That’s a crazy fast pace, nice job!
Must be my awesome sweat-wicking shirt… lol
It was actually a pretty nice day. So once we stopped, it wasn’t hard to cool down.
I need to get on the new breakfast bandwagon…I think I need to switch things up too! And your awesome breakfast today has inspired me.
It definitely pushes for a little creativity in the AM. Well… a little more than half-blinded throwing oats and milk in a bowl and letting them go in the microwave…
i do that so many times with certain foods…example tempeh I tried it…thought it was OK…I kept trying it in different ways and then came to the conclusion…WHY am i trying to liek this food? if I dont like it, I dont like it and I moved on! haha…so I hear ya on the trying to like fake chicken!
Exactly! I was trying to think of another way to make it and was just like, “no! I give up!”
I definitely do NOT look that good after a workout! What is your secret!? ha
- Beth @ http://www.DiningAndDishing.com
apparently my secret is a really good setting on my camera… lol. Because I was a sweaty mess.
Agree w/ Beth. You always look great after a workout and I look like . . . I just had another baby after hours and hours of pushing!
I must agree on certain fake meats. I CANNOT do faux hot dogs. ICK. Which is what I had for lunch today. Again, ick!
Have so much fun today!!
I haven’t tried fake meats, but if you like tofu i just started making the best.salad.ever. So good. Hearts of romaine lettuce, tofu, black beans, sprouts, grape tomatoes, cucumber, pepper and it leaves me full alllll up until dinner!
Yeah, I just couldn’t get over that fake chicken. Sorry you’re not a fan either!!
As for my team… LET’S GO, OAKLAND!!!!!!!
i love the combination of the two breakfasts!! so rewarding isnt it!! <3
haha good run for sure
enjoy the bliss!
Umm why do you still look cute after a run? Not fair! =P
That pancake and egg brek looks awesome!
i’m not a sports fan but my hubby is so i just piggyback on his teams – sixers, yankees, and phillies.
I hate the fact that I grew up 30 mins from Chicago and still haven’t been to Wrigley (my family is full of White Sox fans, we’re blue collar, what can I say?)
Am loving this new breakfast thing of yours—it’s so nice to mix it up from regular oats and such. Pancakes and a shroom scramble sound fantastic and like you said, a balance in between full and famished.
YEP totally not a fake chicken gal either ! i feel you girl!
you look so happy after your run! what a great picture of you!
