Hola! How are we feeling this Friday?
I’ll tell you how I feel right now:
Like Leslie Mann’s character in Knocked Up when she’s trying to motivate Alison to get up.
“I’ve had three Red Bulls in the last 20 minutes and I feel GREAT!”
Yeah… like that. I may have overdone it on coffee today.
I also just really love Leslie Mann. She had some of the best one liners in the movies she’s in and you can’t beat her comedic timing.
As I looked at the calendar yesterday, I realized one slightly exciting yet anxiety-inducing thing. My golden birthday is LESS THAN 10 DAYS AWAY. Yep- I’m turning 25 on the 25th this year. In all honesty, I thought I’d hit quarter-life crisis mode at some point and do something silly and rash. That hasn’t happened… yet. But I won’t rule it out. I’ve been known to go off on random tangents.
Either way, it’s going to be my birthday soon (part of the reason I have weekend visitors the next couple of weeks) and I’m never one to ignore a birthday.
Would it be tacky to register myself at Whole Foods for granola bars and a variety of nut butter? Yes? Ok… I won’t do it. Or I’ll at least wait until Christmas.
One of my grievances with the age change is it puts me into a new racing category. Which, from observation, seems MUCH more competitive. That could only mean one thing. I’m gonna have to step up my game. For reals.
Whatever though, let’s talk about something else.
Like the fact that I have friends here! I picked them up after work at the airport and we’ve been gossiping and chit-chatting ever since. Most of that we did while I was making dinner for my guests!
Imagine how excited I was to find out we all have the same extreme appreciation for asparagus and zucchini!
Every decent meal needs a salad, right? We kept it simple with peas, cashews and feta.
And the main meal was my fav way to have chicken as of late- baked bbq. Thrown in a wrap with avocado and mozzarella. Totally delicious.
I got the two thumbs up from my guests.
Helllloooooo Sarah and Beth! After dinner, we ran out to grab a chick flick- finally caved and watched Remember Me. I had been curious and a lot of you kids have said it’s worth a go, so we picked it up. And it was a much better movie than I was expected. I thought it’d be a mushy romance flick… not the case at all! If you’re looking for a good girly movie (and maybe even a good cry), I’d say to check it out!
We had a few glasses of wine, but that didn’t keep me from an early morning wakeup call…
I used to do the early morning workouts last year, but got out of the habit. No idea why. The workout room was empty. And not a humid sticky mess as it has been the last few times I’ve gone. Maybe a new way for me to switch it up when I go into the office later? hmmm…
Either way, I did a semi-cross train day. I ran 3 miles, focused on some arm weights, and hopped on the elliptical for 20 minutes. All while catching the morning news. My main interest is learning a little more about the Transformers 3 filming that is going on over the weekend downtown. The gals and I plan to seek it out tomorrow and get our first look at a movie set! And maybe a glimpse of Shia LeBouf?
Well… maybe not… but a girl can dream! (Especially now that Vince Vaughn has a baby mama- boooo….)
Won’t lie, though – my caffeine intake this morning has been somewhat alarming. I partially blame the late night movie on that one. And the 5:00 gym session. Eek!
Gotta go, though- work is calling. And I don’t have time to mess around- right after we’re going out to hit up a BYOB restaurant and see a comedy show! (I seriously can’t wait to tell you guys about it because it looks it’s going to be scandelous… so get excited!)

Ummm, the filming you mention? Right out my window at work! I’ve been watching Shia hop around all morning
Shut up shut up shut up!
Flag him down and give him my digits!
Tell him I’ll be waiting for him tomorrow…
I’m seriously jealous… lol
Do you know that outside of the Midwest not many people have heard of the “Golden Birthday”? How weird is that…and dang they’re missing out on a extra special gift on that given year
Have fun this weekend!
I did not know that! Seriously- I’m using the quarter life and the golden bday excuse to make it a big deal! Any excuse to celebrate- so it’s sad no one else knows about this!!!
Totally did the quarter life Birthday! And my golden was when I turned 24th. Milk it like it’s no one’s bizness girl!
I have been wanted to see Remember Me. Thanks for the review. It’s get to a get your cry on once in a while. It’s on next time the hubby goes outta town.
Good luck on the Shia sighting!
I love the movie “Knocked Up.” Her one-liners are out of control hilarious.
And that salad (as simple as it may be) looks awesome. Cashews and peas? Sign me up.
Remember Me is good, hey? I watched it last weekend and REALLY enjoyed it!! The ending was kind of shocking though!
Totally threw me! I did not see that one coming at all… I saw SOMETHING crazy happening, just not THAT….
Hm, I’ve never heard of the golden birthday, which is a shame because it’s too late for me. Darn, 19, come back!
And even though I’m not a big fan of Shia I think it’s so cool they’re filming right near you. Go get an autograph!
solid movie reference (knocked up that is)
remember me hit me like a ton of bricks. that ending. ouch. ouch. ouch.
cashews in salad. GAH! i feel ashamed for never decorating my salads with the best nut ever. must replicate soon!! thanks amy
Hahaha I love that part in Knocked Up! Hooray for July birthdays, I can’t wait to start celebrating mine today.
Enjoy it as we enter the quarter-life… eek!
Leslie Mann is stinking hilarious!
Have a great time with friends this weekend! I’d be staking out the Transformers shoot too! Too fun!
Oh good luck! We’ll have to compare notes…
I love Leslie Mann! I just had more coffee and am definitely feeling it too! Woohoo…love the coffee! I hope you have a great time with your friends! Can’t wait to hear about the comedy act! Have a great one Amy!
The food looks delish and I’m with you on Leslie Mann. Also, not only do we have the same bday, but we are exactly the same age. We’re twins. Except for the thousands of miles that separate us.
Shut up! I love the randomness there… seriously- what are the odds?
I love Leslie Mann! Shes hilarious!
25 isnt that bad. It really feels the same as 24, but when people ask how old you are you have to say 25. Thats it. It does suck that its OFFICIALLY mid twenties and everyone is married and having babies already though. Maybe thats just me.
That’s not just you… I’m one of the few weird-o’s left. But that’s ok. Stay strong, Leah!!!
I feel kind of cheated on the whole Golden Birthday thing… I had mine when I was 4… before I knew that a golden birthday even existed. Ahh well. What can ya do. Something I definitely would love to do, though, is watch Remember Me. I heard it was good, but the fact that Robert Pattinson is in it kind of threw me off… Twilight ruined him for me! Still, I’ll probably end up watching just to see what all the fuss is about.
Oh, and 25 really isn’t that bad… I turned the big two five in the beginning of this year and haven’t experienced any kind of crisis… and now that I said that, it’s probably going to happen.
Yeah, I’m not really that big of a fan of RP- or the whole Twilight thing in general. But he wasn’t too bad in this one…
haha I love the feeling of being hyper and energetic! That’s so exciting about your birthday, I feel like 25 is a big one and that’s even cooler that it’s your golden birthday too! I never thought about how you have to change age groups now, you’re right 25-29 (or whatever it is) is definitely the most intense age group!
You are so cute! Happy Early Birthday. I am totally planning on asking people to send me Whole Foods Gift Cards for my birthday…nothing could be better in my opinion!
Happy Early Birthday!!! And I agree that it would be really nice to register for bday gifts. People just don’t get the love of all things foodie too much of the time!
I really liked that movie as well. The ending totally threw me for a loop.
Agreed. Or all things running. But that’s ok. We’re a rare breed… and I like my uniqueness
I love Leslie Mann too! I know she wasn’t the main character in Knocked Up but I felt she stole the show.
Happy Early birthday!!!
25 was a seriously hot year for me. I imagine it will bring you good things. And I saw Knocked Up with my dad and loved it so much that I didn’t care how awkward it was. Good times.
Well you make 25 sound not so bad. I like it.
I agree…Leslie Mann is freaking hilarious!!!
registering at whole foods sounds like a dream. i actually got a wf gift card for my bday. i swear, it was like gold to me. so exciting. have fun at the comedy show!
25-30 is a more competitive running group. They say women runners hit their peak between 26 and 36. Maybe that has something to do with it. Whole foods should TOTALLY get a registry!!! A birthday registry!!! They could break the mold of wedding and baby registries–those are so over done! haha
Well hopefully that means I can only get better as well! ha ha.
And yes. I have no plans to get married or have a kid any time soon. But it would still be fun to send out christmas cards with places that I’m registered, right?
SHUT UP!! Shia is gonna be by you?! Thats so cool.
Sounds like you are gonna be having a pretty fun weekend. Tell Carrey I said hello
yep yep- hopefully! Won’t lie- I get starstruck easily…
I’m so glad you watched Remember Me! Such a great movie.
You.. get to.. be near Shia? Possibly? I am extremely jealous because he is gorgeous.
Ok, a couple things in common:
1. I’ve been OD-ing on caffeine a lot lately. Iced coffee is just about the best thing ever
2. Your bday is the day before mine! Join-blogger-bday partayy??
woot woot! Bdays unite!!!!
yayay for your bday coming up!!!
i have too much caffiene on days that i AM SO TIRED. its bad.
Ha, ha. Coffee has that same affect on me. Caffeine makes me SO hyper!
Everything looks so good!! What movie is Remember Me? I can’t keep anything straight anymore.
Oh yeah….one more thing-I want some french toast.
All the food looks so good!
Too much coffee?! What? Is there such a thing?
Sounds like a fun weekend!!!
you raise a valid point… there is such a thing, but it takes quite some time to get to that point…
what a fun and eventful time with your friends. I can’t even remember my 25th birthday and it was only 4.5 years ago. How sad is that? Now go do something insane already!
P.S. I’m going to get knocked up so I can register at whole foods for my baby shower. The baby must eat!
I have Knocked Up DVR’ed to watch this week — funny you quoted a scene! And your golden birthday…aww! Those are special
Have a super weekend — can’t wait to hear about your night last night!
Yeah- I think since it’s been on so much on tv that I’ve been quoting it like crazy!
Your meal looks great! I love the bbq in the wrap.. yumm! Hopefully you see some movie stars! Have a great time at the comedy show!
Glad you had a good time! I need to rent Remember Me like asap. I think Leslie Mann is hilarious too. She is awesome in Knocked up (and in that one with Adam Sandler). 25 is an exciting one!! I just turned it in January!
LOVE Knocked Up! So funny. And your cashew/pea salad looks awesome, I never would have thought to do that combo!
happy (early Golden Birthday!!
I LOVE Leslie Mann… you’re right, she has awesome one liners.
I quote her all the time from 40 Year Old Virgin, where she’s drunk + talking about FRENCH TOAST. I always say it the way she does.
hahahahah you should ALWAYS reference Knocked Up from here on out. One of my favorite movies, seriously!
Mine, too! I can’t help but watch it every time I see it on…
leslie mann is awesome. have you seen “funny people?”
25 was a wonderful time. i remember it like it was yesterday! now i’m 2 years away from 35….where does the time go?!?!
Haha, I love that movie. And sometimes there’s nothing better than a caffiene rush. Very necessary after an early morning workout. I hope you spotted some celebs!
jacked up on redbulls and feeling wonderful!! haha that sounds pretty awesome!!!
even better is the food you whipped up that OBVIOUSLY everyone would love!! happy guests = happy host! <3
