Ok. Who booked this flight?!?! It surely wasn’t me. Mom…. I know it was you…
Yes, it’s 4:15. AM. Yes, it’s vacation and I’m up way earlier than I would have been if I had been working today. I guess that’s just how it goes.
A nap will be necessary.
But I digress…
Last night was packed. (Get it?? One of the things I had to do was pack… no? I’m going to pretend it’s just too early for you yet, because that’s funny!) Anyways, I raced home and headed straight to my apartment’s workout room. I didn’t know how long I was going to have the desire to workout, giving the tiny bit of lingering soreness, but wanted to make sure I had plenty of time to go as long as I please. I ended up just sticking to 25 minutes on the elliptical followed by some free weights and abs. It felt pretty good- so I’ll be back into full swing again soon!
Dinner was an egg and spinach scramble.
Loaded with spinach. Because my timing really sucked with grocery shopping last weekend and I didn’t want to the spinach to go to waste while I am gone. Popeye would have been proud. There was a ton of it. Of course I had to have toast. And maaaay have put almond butter on half for dessert.
Packing is always a chore. I’m awful at it because I’m the world’s worst overpacker. The idea of only taking a carry-on for three days worth of stuff makes me want to hyperventilate. A girl needs her shoes! And I have this awful habit of overpacking stuff like underwear. Seriously… what is that about? Have I ever needed 3 or 4 pair for each night I’m staying somewhere? No. But I’ll pack it anyways. Every time. guaranteed. How about you? What do you always overpack?
On a happy note, the lovely ladies over at She’s a Fit Chick and RunRettaRun passed along the Versatile Blogger award to me! Thanks girls!
To accept, you’re supposed to list off 7 random things about yourself. I’ve done this a few times, and I’m really not that interesting, but here are a couple more for you to ponder for fun:
- I am one of over 30 cousins. On one side of my family. I really can’t give you the exact number without sitting and thinking about it because inevitably I’ll accidently skip someone. My mom comes from a HUGE family of 13. So I guess that many cousins is close to an appropriate average? I’m somewhere in the upper middle of the group. Family gatherings are full-blown ordeals. And can be overwhelming if you’re unprepared.
- Of all the places I haven’t been and want to visit, I think I’d choose New York City. The city fascinates me (as did Chicago before I visited it). And if the exciting hustle and bustle isn’t enough to entice me, I want to see and experience the culture, history and landmarks, restaurants, bars, shopping… the list goes on. Oh New York… one day!
- I enjoy romantic dinners and long walks on the beach…. oh wait… just kidding. When it comes to dating, I’m not huge in the romance. My ideal date would allow me to wear jeans, laugh over drinks and a casual dinner, and do something random (think bowling, sight seeing, hiking). One time, a guy I dated insisted (after I protested) on a candle lit dinner and a carriage ride. One time, I broke it off with a guy after the second date. Shoulda listened.
So that’s all I have for now. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Boom! Who gets the silver medal in early rising?! Ha. When I traveled with my parents, they ALWAYS booked the early flights. The second I started buying my own plane tickets, I had this incredible moment of realization that I didn’t have to travel only at 6 a.m. It was brilliant. I over pack, too, but it’s usually just running clothes. And 900 t-shirts.
Enjoy your trip! I always bring too much underwear too
have a super duper time! hope a nap sneaks it’s way in later !!!
i overpack EVERYTHING! i am right there with you on the shoes, panties, etc!!! you just never know……….
be safe! xo
Ok, I over pack underwear too. You never know if you are going to have an accident or need a change of underwear. Seriously, I am not that old. I don’t know why, I just keep on over packing. I LOVE New York too! I love the fast pace and walking everywhere! Ok, 13…holey moley! That is a big family!
Have a great trip! Enjoy your family!
Have a great time!!!
I’m not a huge romance fan either….I’d rather hang out in jeans, have a fun dinner, a few drinks and do something fun! I have tons of cousins too!! My dad is one of twelve children…family get togethers are always a great time!
I am a notorious overpacker, and when the bf and I fly out to Iowa for his brothers wedding in a few weeks our flight is at 6:30 in the morning. I’m not looking forward to that early wake up call especially since the bf does not function until he’s had coffee.
I’m horrible when it comes to overpacking as well. I’m always afraid that I’ll need something that I didn’t pack, so I take things ‘just in case”… which usually means that I end up with way too much stuff, at least half of which I don’t actually use. Oh well, better safe than sorry, right?
And I’m not really into the whole romance thing either. I mean, it’s nice once in a while, but not all the time. Casual is a lot more fun.
But 4:15 for a trip is soooo much better than 4:15 for work. At least you have something fun to look forward to!
I’m a terrible overpacker, too. The fix? A very large suitcase.
hahah that’s such an early flight! and for my trip i’ve already overpacked. but i’d rather have options to go out, right?! haha
Wow that is an early flight!! Have a safe trip and enjoy DC. And you’ve never been to NYC either!?!?! you HAVE to go.
That is one BIG family!!! And I really really want to go to NYC too. I’ve never been there, Chicago, Boston, anywhere cool up north. I want to just travel all the cities of the US.
And I’m a bit irked right now. I have the travel preparation stress and really want to relieve it with a workout. Instead – I’m sick. Boo.
I tend to pack 3 outfits for each day plus a few more thrown in. The only thing that stops me sometimes are airline weight regulations!
Enjoy your trip! I totally applaud you getting up so early for a trip and STILL blogging. That’s dedication, I’d say!
Haha I pack a crazy amount of underwear too. And socks. I don’t know why, but its good to be prepared!
Have a safe flight!
safe travels and have fun this weekend!! ugh packing stinks. i overpack…everything. extra outfits, extra shoes, extra jewelry. i need options. then i just pray it all fits.
Enjoy the vacation! And it’s better to be overprepared than underprepared, right?!
YES, a girl must pack her shoes…sheesh! You need black, brown, sneaks, stilletos, wedges, pumps, open toed, sandles, perhaps boots for that *one* outfit..haha..
Have fun!
I don’t like sappy romantic dates either! Have lots of fun!
My mom is trying to get me to book my next flight early too.. but I’m trying to resist. Traveling is hectic enough as it is, I don’t want to be rushing out the door to catch a ridiculously early flight! Then again.. she’s using her airmiles so maybe I should just shut my mouth.
Have fun on your vacation!
Ahh that’s so early! My dad always books the early ones in hope we get to our destination with enough time left in the day to do things, but I’m always way too tired to enjoy it! Have a great time on your vacation!
I over pack also..have fun
Enjoy your trip! And NYC is a great pick…I just visited for the first time in May, and I fell in love!
No one should ever, ever have to be at the airport at 4:15. I feel your pain. At least you are off to a fun destination!
P.S. I’m all about an equal spinach-egg ratio. Love my greens.
Have fun! and I’d imagine youd love NYC. Its a truly great place. so alive, so much culture, and tons of great places to eat!
Gah girl, that’s so awesome that you’re already working out again! And I want to go to NYC so bad! Blogger trip?! Haha.
Have fun with your fam!
I am with you with the dating.. I love doing casual fun random things as opposed to some fancy candle lite dinner. I can’t believe you got up so early. At 4am waking up wasn’t even a thought yet let alone working out LOL! Enjoy your trip!
And if you ever come to NYC again let me know, I am only an hour out of the city!
I laughed out loud when I read the overpacking underwear. I seriously pack 3 a day, at least, as if I think I’ll need them. I mean, what the heck do I plan on doing with that many pairs of underwear? Who knows.
I love NYC. I’d love to go back. Or live there. But then The Lover would divorce me. Suckage.
Have a great time on your vacation!
i am a terrible packer too!!!! have fun on vacation
30 cousins!! thats really awesome, u’ll never be alone i guess haha
I always thought of u as a romance loving type of girl, dont know why, but i think romance is quite over-rated nowadays.. or at least ‘under-played’ that most women just say enough with it and would rather get real with a person instead of have a fairy tale.
that definitely is a super early flight. i usually book mine sort of early, around 6:30 or 7:00 am just because i get anxious the night before and never sleep anyways, easier to get there without big crowds and arrive earlier to my destination. hmm maybe u will catch some zzzz’s on the plane.
btw i think i might keep wheat in my diet after the experiment is over, if the test comes back negative too that is. yea if i have a bit every once and awhile it might be nice <3
xoxo
ps. HAVE FUN AMY!
Have fun Amy!
have fun on your trip! i always over pack toiletries, as in, they usually have a suitcase all on their own. what can i say? a girl’s hygiene requires a lot of stuff!
I think we’ll have to be tied for the worst packer ever. I’ve packed for Florida 3 times, and I’m still not done!!! Have a great trip!!!
happy vacay lady!
i am the total opposite of you – i am the world’s worst underpacker. i just figure if i forget anything, i will buy it wherever i am going
and i am sooooo with you in the romance department – i don’t need fancy schmancy things. give me a beer, let’s go paintballing and laugh. like a lot.
Have fun on your trip! I always overpack as well, but don’t want to forget anything ha!
Stopping by to say hi to a fellow blogger coming to the Healthy Living Summit! Maybe you won’t even have to unpack, before you repack!
Have a great vacay!
I think it would be so fun to have that many cousins. I have 6 but they are all younger and I barely know them.
I have only been to NYC once but loved it
Hope you get there someday!
I’m an over-packer too. My family now likes to do this thing where we only take carry-on bags when we go on trips (to avoid the whole bag-pick up fiasco). Uhhh talk about anxiety…can’t bring nearly enough stuff!
I’m not huge on romance either! haha
hate early flights too but at least you get there at a decent time-enjoy!
I’m also an over-packer…even if it’s just for a day.
Have a great vacation!
I love that you’re not one of those romantic lovey-dovey cooey types! I’m not, either. My idea of a date does NOT require flowers and chocolates. In fact, hate that. I just want something no frills, and even an ice-cream cone at McD’s would make me happy so long as we have a good conversation and time together.
Have a great vacay, my dear! I hope you got that nap in!
nyc is the best city in the world! i have ALWAYS wanted to go to chicago. one day…
