Sandwiches and Runways

It all started when I decided to buy a 2-lb bag of asparagus at Trader Joe’s over the weekend.

This is a good idea, Amy.  Surely you can breeze through 2 whole pounds of asparagus.  No problem.

To give you an idea of how much asparagus I usually go through, a 10-oz pack of it will be used randomly here and there over a week before it starts to get a bad.

Needless to say, I’ve been working on getting creative.  :)

Enter a new favorite veggie sandwich…Every good sandwich needs good bread.  (thanks for the coupons, Brownberry…)Layer One= Zucchini roasted with greek seasoning in the oven-a-roo (technical term the professionals use).Layer Two= the star of the show.  Also roasted with the slices of zucchini.  (I think they took about 5 or 6 minutes at 350 degrees?)Layer Three = death to your breath.  Onions sautéed in a pan with balsamic vinaigrette.

Plan to make this for dinner.  At a time you’re not doing anything afterwards.  Just a thought.Cheese!!!  Because everything else was warm, it melted pretty easily.  Otherwise, you could probably pop it all in the oven-a-roo that is still warm from roasting the zucchini and asparagus.  It’s totally necessary to use the cheese to bind it all together.

Don’t tell me it’s not.  I won’t believe you.  Cheese is a must.Baller.

Moving on…

Guess what’s on tonight? (Source)

Now here’s my question…  Do you like watching?  Don’t care?  Appalled beyond belief? I know the issue of body image is brought up often.  I’m just curious of your thoughts?

I think I’ve watched it almost every year.  Other than seeing really cute lingerie that I probably can’t afford and will never buy, I love how these chicks strut their shiznit on the runway.  There’s something to be said about the confidence they exude.  Not that I don’t see the other side of the argument.  As a mother, maybe I would view it differently. If I were a little more self-conscious about my body (ahem- my teeny tiny boobs might be something to discuss here), maybe it would bug me.

I guess I just don’t take the show in such a serious light.  But that’s why I want to here YOUR thoughts.  :)

Because that’s just my opinion.

I’m glad one thing that isn’t just my own opinion is my feeling towards T-Swizzle and my man, Jake.  It’s just weird.  And doesn’t make sense.  Maybe I’m just saying these things because I’m not jumping on the Taylor Swift fan bus.  Who knows…

Either way, it’s a rainy Tuesday here.  Let’s hope this isn’t a sign of how the day will turn out.  Fingers crossed!

  1. I bet your pee smells really funny right now – and it will for the next week or so. I’m just sayin’…

  2. Those onions probably made that sandwich delicious- death to your breath be damned! :) Let’s hope the sun maybe comes out at some point today.

  3. Wait. Is watching the VS show a thing? Do I live in a cave and that is why I’ve never known about it? Or is it because my fashion sense stopped growing at age 11? Hrm. I mean, whatever, those ladies are probably wearing more clothes than a lot of other people on television. And since we have TV shows about Playboy bunnies, I don’t think we have to worry about over-sexualizing women. Beentheredonethat. At least the models HAVE boobs. The models with no tits or hips freak me out.

  4. I was hoping this was one of those green screen things where you’d be putting your sandwich in front of a variety of interesting backdrops like, outer space and the grand canyon.

I read somewhere that an overabundance of asparagus causes kidney stones in men — so be glad you’re not a dude!

  5. Oh my gosh that looks SO good! I love asparagus. And that looks tasty! Like a twist on a classic panini!

  6. Yeah, this weather is bumming me out. And it’s supposed to snow later. :/ 2 lbs of asparagus? That’s a big bag! Asparagus soup is always good- didn’t you threaten to make homemade soup this week??

  7. That sandwich looks impossibly hard to eat, as are all of my best veggie sandwiches.

And I skip the lingerie show. No need to go looking for a self-esteem drop.

  8. I loved veggie sandwiches and totally agree – cheese is a must. on everything.

I’ve never watched the victoria’s secret runway show!

  9. I love sandwiches! And no, you can’t make them without cheese.

I don’t have an issue with the victorias secret fashion show. I get the body image issues thing, but compared to most models, the victorias secret girls are the most real.

  10. Love that sandwich! Do you have a George Foreman grill? I love cooking my veggies on there for quick grilling!

I have never watched that runway show. I guess to each his own, right? As a mom, I still don’t have a huge opinion either way. Have a great one sweetie!

  11. Now you just need to pop that whole entire sandwich on a george forman and grill it! Hmmmmmm :)

  12. That sandwich looks pretty darn good!

I don’t watch the VS show, but not because I’m against it..it’s more because I’m a tv whore and I have a million DVRed shows to catch up. I think those ladies look fab and love that they rock it out!

  13. I watch the show every year and have no problems with it. I think all those girls are very healthy looking–toned, not emaciated (sp?) Plus secret wish in life? To be one of them…imagine all the free goodies!

  14. I’d eat that sandwich for dinner every night if I had 2 pounds of asparagus. With a side of extra asparagus.

I’ve never seen the VS thing. I don’t really have an opinion, but if those models have that kind of confidence – I say more power to them.

  15. i cant jump on the T.Swift band wagon ever since her irritating performance at the VMAs. Its like whatevers already get over yourself. and she really needs to find new material to write about besides guys that have left her high and dry.

ive never watched the show. if i did, id probably be eating a tub of ice cream while doing so. and maybe spoon feeding my tv just by chance those women might get some in their system.

  16. OMG THAT’S ON TONIGHT?! whyyyyyyy do i have clinic :( slash whyyyyyyyyyy do i not have cable. sigh. i’m going to need a full recap from you :)

i think i’d really love that sandwich. if it didn’t turn my pee smelly. and i tell people that all the time. anytime asparagus is mentioned actually. i’m classy.

  17. Can you say smelly pee! My gosh! Not too interested in the fashion show. My PT trains a bunch of VS models and he was there, said it is such an annoying event. I’d agree.

  18. mmm, I love sandwiches, and this one sounds amazing… over the summer we’d grill asparagus and a baguette… then fill the baguette with the asparagus and some gruyere. oh WOW one of the best sandwiches I have ever had… :D

I agree about the VS Fashion Show… I don’t always watch it, but I don’t BOYCOTT it either… confidence is a Sexy Thing, and I enjoy the over the top fun that is VS.

It’s not hurting anybody, it’s nothing to get all serious about. :D

  19. You can totally freeze the asparagus! Just roast it up and toss it in the freezer and then take it out on an as needed basis.

I used to work on the VS Fashion Show when I was at CBS. I never watched it but then again I never watched anything on CBS!

  20. Asparagus and zucchini, two of my favorites! Also, I will probably watch, and feel bad about myself/marvel at their abs. Can’t help it.

  21. Asparagus makes me pee smell like asparagus. :) But I love it and your sandwich looks delicious. I’m certain The Lover would not love me for that at all!

I just wish I could afford VS stuff. :)

  22. I haven’t seen it in a few years but I do love the VS fashion show! Mostly because like you said, it’s great to see beautiful women walk with confidence. It’s something we don’t see too often these days!

  23. That sandwich sounds crunchy, mmmm!

OK I love the VS fashion show, call me crazy but I oggle at those bodies regardless. Some of the VS women are more curvy, but you get a few sticks in there:)

    Jiggle bells! I’m tuning in:)

  24. I don’t really care about the VS show, and I REALLY don’t care about Taylor Swift. Though I kinda like her new bangs……

  25. I love watching the VS fashion show…I’ve watched it every year since I can remember! I don’t think it negatively affects your body image unless you already have those issues to begin with. Plus, those VS girls work it on the runway…I love their confidence!

  26. I’ve actually never watched….don’t know why? I guess I’m bad about remembering when things are on. :-) I have no objections to the show, especially since everything on it is something we’d see IRL, ya know? Okay, maybe not the $1 trillion diamond bra.

  27. Taylor Swift relies too much on autotune for me to like her voice. It just never sounds the same (a.k.a. as good) live. At this rate, I’ll be commenting about Taylor Swift everyday on your blog.

I’m split on the VS fashion show. I personally don’t mind watching, but in some ways it falls into the same category as the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. I feel like it wasn’t really created to celebrate women, but for men to fantasize about them. Everything is so pretty though. And I love that it celebrates a different shape (although unrealistic) than normally found in a fashion show.

Thanks for the technical term oven-a-roo. I’ll be using it from here on out.

I’ll end my essay of a comment here. :)

  28. I am sure my bf is excited to watch the show on tv tonight! I am pretty sure it’s for men :)

  29. I would have to say that I don’t watch the VS show…my hubby won’t let me. Mostly bc it does spark a few negative thoughts my way.

I do love your veggie sandwich! I have asparagus in the fridge right now, a reminder that I need to use it tonight!

  30. That sandwich looks wonderful! I haven’t ever seen the VS fashion show but I don’t think I would take it that seriously. I mean I know I am never going to look like that…so eh..whatever. But I think it could give the wrong impression to younger girls.

  31. Your sandwich looks wonderful! Unfortunately, I don’t love asparagus as much as I wish I did – but maybe in a sandwich I could start to convince myself otherwise?

  32. Why don’t more people talk about how ridic Tay Swift and Jake are together?! Because seriously, it’s weird.

  33. Asparagus is one of the few veggies i’m not the hugest fan of.. but it can be so good. Have you tried it wrapped in bacon? AMAZING.

  34. I love asparagus! I dislike the “funky” smell in your…well….you know ;)

    What a tasty looking sammy!

I love the VS show! The girls totally motivate me and are so stinking gorgeous!

    xxoo

  35. That sandwich looks amazing! I love asparagus on sandwiches. And asparagus in general.

I never really watch the show, but I can’t say it really offends me. I was having a similar conversation with some friends last night about lingerie football. My thoughts are pretty iffy about the whole thing.

  36. I usually see ads for the Vicki’s Show but didn’t this year, weird. I’ve only seen bits and pieces of it but all the guys in my office were talking about it. I may have thrown in a “Yeah, I’d hit that if I were a lesbian or man” here and there.

I want some asparagus now…..your concoction is perty!

  37. Late but:
    1. VS show is so absurd. I watched a few minutes of it for shits and giggles and laughed hysterically.
    2. This supposed JG TS thing confirms my suspicion that JG is in the closet. It’s too weird. She’s a fucking kid!!
    3. This sandwich intrigues me! In a good way.
