A Pull-Up?

Thanks so much for all the pasta ideas!  If you’re ever lacking ideas, check out some of comments

It’s safe to say I’m interested in all of them.  Especially ones with cheeeeese…

How is everyone doing? I’m quite energetic at the moment, but the week has taken a toll on me. Considering I thought yesterday was Thursday. Bleh. It’s been a long and frustrating week that seems to have left me wondering where my patience went.  Some may even go so far as to refer to me as “short-tempered”.  And distracted. I could see that one happening- I do tend to ramble when my thoughts are being pulled in various directions.

Maybe it’s the weather.  A girl thing. Exhaustion. All of the above?

Yesterday I mentioned an “energy surge” later in the evenings everyday this week. This keeps me up at night. I’ve been pretty energetic when I wake up (like now), but crash later in the morning at work. Which lasts all afternoon and the whole process repeats. Vicious cycle.

Either way, moving on to better things that don’t involve complaining- like Mexican food.

Because really, who doesn’t love Mexican food? It makes people happy. Especially me. So let’s DO THIS.Black bean burrito.  Not all of the filling fit.  Woops.  Trader Joe’s wraps are a little frustrating.  One isn’t quite big enough, but two would be way too  much so I just kept the extras as a side.  This was juuuuust right.Stuffed to the brim with black beans seasoned with taco seasoning, salsa, cheese, jalapenos and sour cream.  Fab.

I really really missed having wraps in my life.  One awesome thing about the Healthy Living Summit was that they were ridiculous about handing out coupons.  I have Arnold’s/Brownberry to thank for my not having to pay for bread since August.  Why buy wraps when I can have another form of carbs for free? It is a recession, after all.

But alas, New Years came and with that the expiration date of my coupons.  Sadness.

That doesn’t mean there isn’t half of a loaf of bread chillin’ in the freezer, though.  ;)

Chilling out on the running this week was something I am very serious about.  But I’m not giving it up completely- that’s just CRAZY talk.

After a solid day yesterday of  mostly weights, I was so ready this morning to jump back on the tread for anything but a walk.

Hey stranger!  Long time, no run…

Sadly, the tv wasn’t working.  So there wasn’t a visual distraction.  Boo.  At least my ipod was up and running (not always the case being as how I’m horrible about charging it).

2 miles down with an 8:25 pace. It started out looking pretty bleak, but slowly I worked my way up to a solid pace of 8:00 by the end before jumping on the elliptical for 15 minutes. I even knocked it up a level higher than usual.  The reminder of half marathon in April… Hustle Up the Hancock in February… half marathon in April… Hustle Up the Hancock in February is in my head now.  I’ve got goals to accomplish.

Here’s a question for ya today- who can do a pull-up? Christina tried one the other day and it got me thinking.  Can I do it?  Considering I haven’t made an attempt at one since at least high school, I really had no idea.

Mon was there and said I better not pull anything out of socket. Thanks for having some faith, Mon.

But she was right. I had a little “oomph” and a mini movement up, but really I just sort of hung there.

Oh well. Now I know.  The answer is “no”.

And that doesn’t bother me.

Let’s move on.  And make this Thursday go fast.

Which will require a caffeine refill… so excuse me…

  1. ughh it’s so frustrating not being able to do one!!! i have the little “oomph” too, but that’s about it. then i just swing and my hands start to hurt hah!

  2. I cannot do a pull up. I think I have the weakest arms in the world. No matter what I do, I still can’t do one.

I just realized the other day that I haven’t had a wrap in forever. I immediately put them on the grocery list for this weekend because now I am craving them!

  3. Oh what’s up Goldilocks. I think I can do one, maybe two, if I cheat and don’t lower myself all the way down. In high school I could do ten. Granted I was about 20 lbs thinner. Haha.

  4. All I do while dangling from the pull-up bar is make weird grunts and turn an unhealthy shade of red. I think it’d be so cool to be able to do one.

  5. I had no idea they expired 12/31/10 and had about 10 coupons left that got wasted!!! Sad story.

  6. I have never been able to do a pull up. Never. However, I am able to pull myself out of the pool now. I couldn’t do that in high school. Does that count?

  7. Yeah yeah I can’t do a pullup but I’d love to try…maybe I’ll make that a goal of mine for this year. 1 pullup. yep.

  8. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to do a pull up. I always failed that one during the Presidential Fitness test in school! Now I avoid pull up bars at all costs. Iv’e got to get to a real push up first…then maybe I’ll attempt a pull up…

  9. I definitely cannot do a pull up. No matter how fit I get, some things I just cannot do. Lots of non girl push ups 1, a pull up is 2 :) .

  10. Mexican is my most favorite food EVER. Looking at that burrito makes me want Chipotle!
And pull ups suck. I want to be able to do one so bad. But it’s never gonna happen so I’ve pretty much just given up.

  11. Um….if I could ever even do ONE pull up, I would feel so bad ass. I WISH I had one in my house – I swear I would practice while watching the Biggest Loser or something. Maybe I need to find a play ground with one???

  12. i totally miss having a tv on my cardio machines – they used to distract me and keep me going forever. now running is much harder to focus on for me.

you should get a pull up bar for the door way, im telling you, if u just keep working on it a little everyday, you can definitely do a pull up. you can do it with a chair and first and i swear u will get it eventually. i couldnt do any before and then i got up to like 6! :) im back to zero now though. lol.

  13. I do not do pull ups! I am ok with that. Your wrap looks perfect to me and I love the sides on the side. I always put too much in mine! I hear ya on the energy thing…I am crashing as we speak. More coffee!!!

  14. I’m pretty sure i can not do a pull-up. But in elementary school, I rocked at the flexed arm hang. I could stay up there hanging forever!! :-)

  15. Can’t do one. I can squirm and get about a quarter of the way up, though. But it’s not a good look for me so I’ve stopped trying.

  16. I can dangle…. no pull ups here! I will take a burrito though, thanks for offering…… =)

  17. No pull-ups for me. I have the upper body strength of a lady bug. It’s sad. I do love the assisted pull-up machine at the gym though. It’s fun.

That burrito looks insanely good. I haven’t bought wraps in forever either. Not sure what that’s about.

  18. I am exactly like you with the “energy surge” in the evenings. I’ve had this for as long as I can remember and it isn’t fun when I start to fall asleep at my desk around 3:00 pm.

In the past I’ve tried to fight this with caffeine but I’m starting to think that might just be my problem(i’m a slow learner). So I’m laying off the extra beverages and seeing if that helps regulate my sleep cycle.

  19. I can do one if there is a fire under my ass. Does that count? But probably just the ONE. Then I’ll be on fire.

  20. HEEEEEEEEECK NO I can’t do a pull-up. And I’m totally okay with that, too. Even if I were at the lowest appropriate weight for my height I couldn’t do a pull-up.

It’s funny you mention a surger of energy late at night — I’ve been having the same issue! And then I stay up and at 6am I want to cry because I haven’t gotten enough sleep. THANK GOODNESS I’m not working tomorrow!

  21. We have a pull-up bar in our living room and I do a few assisted pull-ups every now and then. I really need to start doing them every night since they are great upper body strengtheners!

  22. I totally wish I could do a pull up–now there’s a fitness goal!

  23. I am a pull-up addict!! Its funny, I can do a lot of pull ups but can’t do one push up lol. I have the pull up bar (I got it for like 20 bucks at target and it goes over door frames) I love it!

  24. HAHA I canNOT do a pull-up for my life;) Maybe I should work on that.

Slash I’m training for a half too! Wooooo :)

  25. I am almost CERTAIN I cannot do a pull up. I’m okay with it.

  26. My ability to do a pull-up depends on how skinny I am, if I’ve eaten, and if I’m feeling rad. When all the powers combine, yes, I can do one or two. But it takes a lot of luck!

  27. Nope. No way. I have such poor upper body strength. Ryan is trying to help me “train”. He’s making me do push ups everynight. But I still have a LONG way to go.

  28. Oooh, yes I can! Seriously the best accomplishment of 2010. Sad? Yes. True? Yes.

  29. ugh i cannot do a pull up to save my life. i’m working on my pushups though. i kind of want to be like GI jane or something

  30. I haven’t been able to do a pull up since my gymnast days as an 11 year old. hahaha. I wish I could! Maybe I should make that a long term goal. haha

I thought yesterday was Tuesday, so for me, I feel like the week is flying by! (Like, I legit texted my friend and said “I know it’s tuesday but…”) she responded with a “Um, I’m going to let you keep on thinking it’s Tuesday….) hahahaha

  31. I for sure can NOT do a pull-up. Now that you mention it, that would be a great goal! I think I’ll give myself until the end of the year… it might be my proudest moment!

  32. mm I love all the jalapenos on your burrito!

I SUCK at pullups! We always had to do them when I was a gymnast and I never could. I could probably do like one now. Boo.

  33. I’m really impressed with your burrito wrapping skills. Mine always opens at the back and everything falls out and I basically tear off the tortilla and use it to eat what’s on my plate. I’m the worst Californian alive.

  34. That wrap looks delicious. I just did a thai peanut wrap, with some random sauce I picked up at the grocery store and it was amazing. A little spicy and a lot delicious!

  35. Any time I attempt a pull up I am reminded why they used to make the girls do the arm hang while the boys had to do pull ups in high school…

  36. I used to be able to do 3 pull-ups in a row. Now, I can barely lift myself half-way. I need to work out…

  37. Loving the jalapenos! I think its been three days since I’ve had Mexican food so that needs to be fixed ASAP.

I used to be such a morning person and no energy at night but now it seems the opposite. I am dragging in the morning until 11A, perk up until midnight. This is NOT a good thing in my book.

That sucks about the expiration on the coupon. I’m pissed off for you.

  38. I’ve never been able to do a pull up/chin up – maybe someday :)

  39. Pull-up and push-ups are pure evil, lol.

I hate it when you get on a machine and something doesn’t work, throws off your game.

  40. [...] City Randomness Can I just say I’m really glad I’m not the only one out there who can’t do a pull-up?  For a minute there, I was afraid I’d have to start [...]

  42. Damn, that burrito looks really REALLY good. Mmmm. Simplicity and health wrapped in love, right? Ok, maybe not quite but still looks tasty.

The pull-up- I WANT so badly to do one- just one. Alas, I have yet to do one unassisted… but I’ll get there- just as you will! Practice makes (something close to) perfect, right?

  43. In elementary school I dreaded those presidential fitness tests because I knew the moment would come when I had to do a pull up. Couldn’t do one then, can’t do one now. Still feel so incompetent ha.
