Are things really back to normal now? Please say yes- I thrive on routine during the work week.
Well, everything except that I’m still yet to unpack from my trip last weekend, but we’re calling it a minor detail. Unpacking is the worst. And my theory is that if I ignore it long enough, it’ll do it itself. (TWSS)
Other than that, things are good. My refrigerator is stocked. The sleeping routine is pretty much back to normal. And I even worked out last night for the first time in a week.
Yes, an entire week. Who am I?
I’m getting the shakes just thinking about it. Yikes.
The first day back was supposed to be yesterday- a friend of mine and I were going to start running during lunch. However, all this tornadic weather has given us nothing but dark and stormy lunchtimes. Of course that would happen.
We’re going to try again today. So far, it’s looking clear but chilly. Crossing fingers.
Until then, I found other ways to get my cardio in. Like the workout room that I’ll only have access to for another 2 weeks before moving.
I’m almost going to miss the elliptical.
Shhh… let’s pretend that wasn’t said out loud.
22 minutes on the elliptical, 10 on the stairs and some solid ab work. Even planks. And I never like doing planks. Who am I???
It was shorter than normal, but for a girl who’s being feeling a little lackluster as of late, it was a nice reintroduction of cardio that didn’t include lifting champagne bottles and shaking my rump.
Other than lack of sleep, part of the reason I was feeling so “blah” this week is my body’s reaction to everything I consumed. I wasn’t kidding when I commented that my body was rejecting all the McD’s breakfast choices. And alcohol. And greasy lunches. And large dinners.
How reckless of me. Other than guacamole, not a green thing entered my body that entire weekend. Who am I? At the airport before I left Vegas, I walked up and down the terminal until I finally decided to kick it CPK style. Mostly because I could sit and be left alone for an hour. Secondly, because it was one of the few places offering salad that hadn’t been wilting in a cooler for hours, being picked up and put back down by a million people.
Yeah- not the healthiest option, but really- show me more than 2 things on the California Pizza Kitchen that are remotely healthy and you win a prize.
I’m waiting…
Anyhoo, there were four salad options. This was the most appealing. Blame the BBQ.
I’ve since been pretty much on a salad detox. And not so much CPK style, but more “every other random vegetable Amy has in the refrigerator”. Nothing else really sounds good at the moment.
It’ll probably only last another day or so (oh hey Memorial Day weekend/kick-off of grilling season). But we’ll just take advantage of it while we can.
I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend! Tonight is one of rest and red box- I have many many plans. That include hanging out with Megan, house parties and Cubs games.
Now if only this Chicago weather would get in line and stop being so ridiculous. I’d like a tan at some point this summer. Please?

I think it should be a rule NOT to unpack for at least a week. It’s totally over-rated. Have a fun, relaxing weekend! Hope that weather clears up! Cubs games are a Chicago summer MUST!
Ug, I know the feeling about coming back from vacation and only craving salads! While in Hawaii I decided I wasn’t going to feel that way and TRIED to eat as healthy as possible (since we made our own breakfast and lunches), I tried to stick to salads most nights but there was the 1/2lb burger I consumed on our last day that just needed to happen…it was amazing. For you, I’m sure you didn’t make or break your health and maybe even improved it a little just by being with friends! Glad you had a fun time…vegas ALWAYS is!
Unpacking is awful. Its too much like putting away laundry (which I haven’t done either btw).
I hate that feeling! Going on vacations where you HAVE to eat out all the time always leaves me feeling like that.
guacamole is a perfectly acceptable “green”
I am totally with you on the end of this storm. I feel like it’s been raining for 2 weeks. I ran in the rain last night because I had been stopped by lightning 2 days this week, and I wasn’t about to treadmill it up.
Glad I did, as always. You’ll get out there soon!
Ugh, I hate the unpacking part. Hands down the worst part of vacation. Well, that and getting to and from the airport in major traffic.
And a salad detox is always necessary for me afterwards. After so many nights of rich foods and big meals, my stomach tends to hurt. Hey, at least you followed the trip with a CPK salad and not, say, some other fried creation.
Have a good Memorial Day, Amy!
But lifting champagne bottles is such a fun workout!
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who takes forever to unpack. I’m the first one to pack (and I always do it a bit too early), but the unpacking isn’t my thing.
Have a fun memorial day weekend! I’m just staying put and relaxing this weekend, and I could NOT be more excited!
What Whaaaat! So…Monday…the beeeachh…peer pressure…
My suitcase is still on the floor half unpacked, too – and my in laws are showing up today to stay with us for the weekend!! Ugh.
Have a great long weekend!
Every Thursday I run at lunch with my coworker – who’s hardcore – so yesterday despite POURING rain we ran anyways. We also ran through a HUGE puddle and got our feet soaking wet. I really do like our lunchtime runs, though!
The CPK salad is actually not too bad for you! I just ask for dressing on the side and no cheese and I am good to go. Also, you can order it with salmon instead of chicken or sub avocado for the chicken, making it even healthier!
Can you tell I have a kid? Yes, we worship CPK and their kid-friendliness hence why I know way too much about something as silly as a salad.
I think my stomach would revolt from McDonald’s too! Hope the weather Gods are nicer to you this weekend – I feel ya on the tan. I’m probably scaring people with my pasty whiteness..
Someone needs to invent a suitcase that unpacks itself. If only I were a technological genius…drats.
And I am also having a red-box evening, I rented the Roomate bc I’m hoping its awful and I can still follow along after 3 glasses of wine
I’ve never had CPK before! I know…weird. Hope you get to feeling yourself this weekend
That shitty feeling after a vacation is the worst. If your constipated, it’s HELL. At least your back on track.
I want to go to Cubs games!
Packing and unpacking are my least favorite things, and for someone who travels for a living, this is a bit of a problem.
That salad does look amazingly delicious. Sometimes healthiness is not the most important factor.
The weather is so crazy! I am hoping you get some sun this weekend and that you feel like a whole new person after the long weekend!
That is probably my favorite salad on CPK’s menu! I also love the chopped all veggies one. Good choice.
Who said it was ever a horrible thing to live out of a suitcase! Secret: sometimes (usually) I fold my clothes, put them back into my clothing basket and they are lucky if they make it into the dresser or closet. Yep guilty.
The weather here is weird too! The 10 day forecast is all in the 60s and 70s- way cold for this time of year. I wouldn’t mind it as much if it didn’t get to be 100 degrees in autumn…
I hate those ghettolicious cooler salads that they try to pawn off for $9 or $10, what a rip off!! I’m in need of a salad like yours though after my sad one from Chick Fil A last night.
And does Mother Nature know it’s Memorial Day Wknd? What the hell is up with this weather? I am so happy I brought a jacket with me.
