You would not believe the swing in weather around here. After spending a day in rain delays and 60-degree weather, waking up to sun and 83 degrees was quite the pleasant surprise.
Because of the sunshine and the flexibility in schedule, I took to the trail by my current apartment. Funny how quickly you get knocked on your butt when not used to 83-degree weather. After completing the full 2.8-hour loop and losing half my weight in sweat, it was already nearing noon and closing in on 90 degrees. I let go of the idea of a second loop and retreated back to my apartment where I chose to hit the stairmill for 15 minutes and cool down with a walk on the treadmill.
Gonna have to relearn that, if I want to get an outdoor run in, waking up and moving around a little earlier will be necessary.
Mentally noted.
My biggest accomplishment during my Memorial Day (other than officially starting the packing/moving process)? Working on my tan lines via the outdoor running and some time pool side. Not time IN the pool, just beside it. Observing all the people hopping in, swearing, and jumping directly out. Still cold. Give it another week or so before jumping in. Mentally noted.
I hope all of you were able to also enjoy the holiday. Especially if this means grilling. Because I would like to live vicariously through you. Still grill-less, I decided to make the most of it and decided to eat what food that would be served at a BBQ.
Asparagus wrap with pepperjack, zucchini, and sweet corn. Sure, a smoked flavor and grill marks would have been nice, but it worked.
I really need to make friends with more people who own BBQ grills. Mentally noted.
And with that, let’s welcome back the work week. It’s a short one, so I’m keeping my whining to a minimum.
Even if it’s Tuesday. They do generally suck, but since it’s the first day of the work week, maybe everyone will be fooled into thinking it’s Monday and it won’t be that bad.
A girl can always dream, right?
Question of the Day- Who got a sunburn this weekend?

I’m still in FL and went for a 3 mile run yesterday which kicked my arse. 90 degrees and humid? Um yeah, we don’t get that in NorCal. And my burn is turning into a lovely tan so I’m off to the beach today!
Same deal with the no-BBQ meal using traditional BBQ ingredients. Sticking things in the broiler tends to give the authentic “char” experience but yeah. Can’t beat a real grill – I hear ya!
Running in the heat really gets me the first few times too. I have a temperature cap though, if its too hot out I know I’ll never make it, so I swim instead.
I’m pretty sure if the weather stays how it looks now, I’ll be running to my parents house and hijacking their bbq. Its only fair.
Come to DC and I’ll grill for you!!! =)
ugh I cannot run outside when its hot like this. I get dizzy after about 15 minutes and start panicking thinking I migth faint in some strangers front yard.
I was at a cubs rooftop yestersay it was glorious! And yes very sunburnt
I didddd! I also ended up in the ER, fun times!
I wish I had a sunburn… I got in a few hours of sun, but nothing significant.
I agree with Beth – come to DC! My apartment has grills.
I hear ya…the weather did a complete 180 this weekend. And today it’s super hot and sunny again? And don’t forget windy :-p
We went from winter to summer here in the NE…whatever happened to spring?! I’m dreading my upcoming long runs that I really need to do outside…it’s hot and muggy by 6:30 AM! Have a great day.
Seriously, you need a BBQ friend. Get on that.
Ah…the aspargus wrap. Is it weird that I consider that to be one of your signature recipes?
Yesss, first sunburn of the year here! loving this weather, could not have asked for a better memorial day weekend. and i must say with the high of 99 here today, i am ready to be back in AC. hopefully more quality time in sunshine next weekend tho, after my skin takes a little break.
Today isn’t THAT bad because I keep thinking it’s Monday too!
I’m guessing you meant 2.8 mile loop – not 2.8 hour loop – because that would be ridiculous.
Haha, yeah, I’m thinking you meant 2.8 mile loop, otherwise you need to COOL it. I ran this morning, too and I was definitely feeling it. Once my favorite person moves out I will seriously have a grill. Count on it.
Corn is actually my faovrite thing in the summer. We just got a grill so I can’t wait to pop it on that! Slash I feel the heat too — why is it so darn hot, even in the morning?!
Sadly NOT me… it was rainy and gross all weekend… and then bright, sunny and hOT HOT HOT come monday morning when I was back to work.
You’ve given me a craving for corn on the cob cooked on the grill! Also, asparagus wraps, which I’ve never had but sound good.
Asparagus wrap? How did you bite into it? It would pull all apart on me.
I cut the grass today and I swear I almost sweat to death. It is sooo freakin’ hot! I did not get burned, but you actually have to go outside to get burned. Oh well, I’m hoping for some good lake time this summer! I hope you’re having a great day Amy!
I did! I did! Also got in the pool and yes, it’s still freaking cold! Though we had terrible wind, the sun was mostly out and it was great. I like having tan lines. Glad you got to work on yours too!
I did! Mentally noted: sports bra + spaghetti strap tank + long bike ride = fugly tan lines. I’m actually about to go put on a tube dress to water my garden and hope they fade a bit. I’ve got a wedding to attend this weekend and uhh…this just won’t fly.
No sunburn for me! Though I’m a wee bit peely from my sunburn last weekend. Oops! By the way, I’m totally impressed with your workout. 2.8 hours followed by 15 more minutes??? Daaaang girl!
you may not have a grill but i want your grill-less meal so bad! the asparagus wrap sounds perfect! esp since there’s cheese in there with it! yummmy!
come over with a wig or two and we’ll drink and grill — mmk? <3
ME! And I may or may not be salivating over your corn.. don’t ask.
Humidity is a killer. Though hopefully not literally.
So jealous of your weather- it’s supposed to be in the 60s all week! I guess that’s what we get for enjoying 80 degree weather in the winter :/
