Bailey and I sure have been doing a lot of wandering around the neighborhood aimlessly. We’re really trying to get our bearings and find some fun spots. The kids of 90210 have The Peach Pit. I want a place like that. With beer and killer chicken tenders. I’ll pass on the milkshakes.
But last night we had a mission. A serious one. Thanks to a little birdie who informed me about this house:
Do you recognize it?
Anyone?
Not even with this very obvious title?
How about a hint? You’re gonna have to click HERE because YouTube is dead set against letting it be embedded into my post. Meh.
Raise your hand if you’re having flashbacks to TGIF.
Now put it down before anyone notices.
I had forgotten about Family Matters being set in Chicago. Sure, there’s the Home Alone house (which I’m still waiting to go to!) in the ‘burbs. But how could I have forgotten this classic?
Sadly, it looks as if Steve Urkel’s home has since been torn down and rebuilt.
Maybe Stefan did it after making all that cash from modeling?
Man… TGIF was awesome. It was a really big deal around my house. My brother and I would get to break out the popcorn and soda (we really didn’t have soda but once a week growing up). And yes, it was a 2-liter.
And yes, it’s “soda”. Not “pop”.
Anyway…
The trek to and from (about a 45-minute walk if you don’t include the run and pit stop we made in a grocery store due to a sudden downpour) was my workout for the night. My booty and arms were still aching from my Jillian Michaels workout from Tuesday, so I decided to postpone anything more intense until after work tonight.
Why is it that day two sometimes is so much worse than day one after a strength workout? I’m such a wus.
I should probably run. MapMyRun.com sent me an email today that didn’t quite say it, but subtly hinted “wow, you’ve really ran hardly anything compared to last week- step it up, you baby!”
You don’t have to tell me twice…
Well, I know a lot of you are getting out early. Or not even at work today. I hate you people.
Just kidding. Sort of.
Either way, have a great weekend, ya’ll. Cross your fingers I get to leave early (for sanity reasons more than anything else).

We LOVED TGIF as small children. And we only got pop once a week too.
You should probably add the houses from Ferris Buellers Day Off, Sixteen Candles and Uncle Buck too.

One more day! One more day!
YES! I’ve located quite a few of them- it’s just a matter of going…
TGIF was great when I was a kid. I kind of hate tv now. My fingers are crossed for you …here’s to a short work day and a long weekend! Have a great one Amy!
Pure Awesome right there.
Family Matters + Full House = Best Night of TV EVER.
Haha, My friends live right by that house, so I’ve checked it out as well. Looks like maybe a rental now? And TGIF was definitely where it’s at! Step by Step, Full House, Family Matters….the good old days
Have a great weekend!
Definitely a rental… I think it’d be so cool to say I lived there!
I’m such a nerd…
Loved that show growing up! What a cool spot to check out
And here the grocery stores have ‘Pop’ listed on their aisle descriptions. It is SODA…
I was Steve Uerkel for Halloween one year. Yes, as a white girl.
Quite a few of my friends went that way. It was just so fun to use his catch phrases…
on my bucket list is to visit one home from the TGIF shows before I die. I don’t care if it’s Full House, Family Matters, Just the 10 of Us, Step by Step, don’t care, just must see one.
And here’s hoping to you getting out early, I just got the good word so good vibes are out there!
I really really want to see the Full House one. It’s on the list for me as well.
Oh TGIF! You have no idea how much that was the highlight of my sad little week when I was a kid. Me and Urkel…how we could relate.
Katie – I love it. You were Urkel? Brilliant costume idea.
Have a fabulous long weekend Amy!!
Wow TGIF used to be the highlight of my week! I haven’t thought about it in SO long…
This is why I always argue against Missouri being in the “Midwest”. If you don’t call it “pop” you ain’t in. This is why I’m also glad the Big Ten got Nebraska and not Missouri. Actually I’m glad about that because Missouri never wins anything in college football.
Woah… .those are fightin’ words, mister.
It’s ok. A lot of people resent the awesomeness that is Mizzou.
Confession..I used to be able to immitate Erkel and his dance really well…I’m so ashamed.
THE DANCE!!!! How could I forget?
Where is the house located? Southside or Westside?
Ashland and Wrightwood. Right there pretty much. BAM!
how ridic was that HURRICANE we had here last night?? crazy.
I know! The hail scared me!
I loved TGIF, and Friday night pizza night. I love Steve’s new digs though, swanky.
Oh my goodness that is awesome! TGIF was the best part of the entire week!
I quoted Urkel in the car last weekend, and the hubby looked at me like I was nuts. (Maybe I deserved that.) I’m glad to see someone else remembers his greatness.
hahaha you crack me up. Have a fantastic holiday weekend, girl!
amaaaaazing! TGIF was the best thing in life. ahhh, brings back so many memories. I can’t believe the house looks the same! I wonder who lives in it. I’m still mad I didn’t get to see the Full House house when I was in SF
Haha that’s awesome!! I completely forgot that was set here! I just looked up what street it was on and I literally used to live on that block-I can’t believe I was so oblivious
Pretty sure I wouldn’t have realized it was THE house if someone hadn’t told me beforehand…
I forgot Family matters was set in Chicago too! I have to go see that house someday.
Yes TGIF! It was pizza night and TGIF in my household. Oh and my sister went to her dads on Friday nights (we’re half sisters) so I got to pick the pizza! Woo hoo!
Pizza or cheese sticks were always on the menu as well! Classic…
That house is so close to me..i didnt know it was famous! And your more sore two days later cuz of DOMS
I totally forgot Family Matters was set there, sigh, I miss TGIF. Hold up, wasn’t Perfect Strangers set in Chicago as well?
Hope you got out early, I feel like everyone I know got out of work early and was celebrating. I completely forgot the 4th was this wknd, oops.
Thinking? Pshh.. overrateed.
Are you effing kidding me???? I’ve been drafting a TGIF themed post for a week now. Either you hacked into my brain and stole my idea (grrr) or great minds think alike.
We have The Christmas Store house close to us – I think they even allow tours if you want during Christmas time!
Have a great 4th!
TGIF was the best part of the week when I was younger…awesome!
I recognized that house right away! Like you growing up, TGIF was no joke. Pizza and we got to eat in the LIVING ROOM. That was never allowed but on Friday nights. Family Matters, Ste-by-Step…ahhh…those were the days
That’s really funny. I forgot about Family Matters being set in Chicago! Married With Children was a Chicago show too, right? Now I’m trying to recount every single show that was set in Chicago!
I am really clueless about all these locations that were the settings of landmark shows/movies. Cities like Chicago and New York are teeming with them. I saw some tourists taking pictures of the townhouse next to my apartment building a while ago and discovered that that was the townhouse that Marilyn Monroe’s character in the ‘Seven Year Itch’ lived in.
yay TGIF! my mum used to work friday nights so my dad would always take us swimming, make “daddy-o’s” pizza and then let us stay up to watch all of TGIF. those were the days
.
happy 4th amy!!

OMG! I just ran past Blago’s house tonight because I, too, am such a sucker for famous houses! I’ll have to make take a jaunt over to the Winslow’s one day. And yes, TGIF was pretty much the best thing ever. I’d always try to fake sick on Fridays so I could sit at home waiting for TGIF to begin.
Smile…this brought back so many great memories of my “younger” days. Thank you for sharing with me, my dear friend. You brought a smile to my face. I hope you had a lovely 4th of July. Hugs from Austin!
TGIAF was the bomb. I would spend the night at a friend’s every friday and we’d watch it and then play out whatever interesting scenes we’d just witnessed. Yes, I was beyond nerdy.
Oh man! I totally recognized it! How did I now know it was here?! We LOVED TGIF in my house too. Did you watch Step by Step too? Ugh… those shows are probably so lame but we thought they were the bomb (before you said “the bomb”).
