This is a subject I’ve brought up a few times before over the lifetime of this here little bloggity blog, but I feel it needs to be addressed again.
It’s very serious, you know.
Hello. My name is Amy. And I hoard cereal.
It’s true. I try to make myself feel better by justifying it.
“What a great sale! And I only have to buy a minimum of 5 boxes!”
Doesn’t matter if I’ve already got 5 or 6 in the pantry.
Or seven. Or that my allotted shelf space in the pantry is full and that I actually have to store cereal elsewhere. That’s right- if you stay with me and get hungry in the middle of the night, food is only steps away from where your head hits the pillow.
Who wants to guess if I’m kidding or not?
Point of the story is, I’m full up. And this will most certainly be the case through the holiday season.
Again- am I kidding? It’s hard to tell.
But when I was contacted by Love Grown Foods about trying out some of their granola, did I politely decline and say, “oh no thank you, I’ve got plenty of dry cereal and granola laying around”?
Of course not. Use your head.
I said OF COURSE I would LOVE to try some! Send it my way!
So she did. And I was excited. Because so many other bloggers have raved about this stuff.
And yes, this picture was taken a week after the fact. And yes, that is an empty bag and another half empty bag. Ummm…
However, there was one WEE little thing I forgot to mention to her.
I don’t like fruit. And yes, that includes dried fruit.
Aw man…
My views on fruit and how much I dislike it puts me in the minority, so I’ve learned to adapt the best I know how. By picking it out when the situation calls for it.
Which worked well. Plus, it’s clearly all about the actual granola anyway…
This stuff is addicting. It’s not overbearingly sweet, but still takes care of a craving if you’ve got a sweet tooth like me. Also, if you just eat a handful out of the bag, it’s not hard enough to break teeth. An issue that I feel is often overlooked.
I ate it once on its own with milk, which is great, but like my other cereals, my preference is to use it as an “extra”.
There was a small pack of the “Cocoa Goodness” flavor. It was chocolatey.
Clearly my favorite.
I also tore through the bag of Raisin Almond Crunch. The first appearance was on some pancakes a few weeks ago.
One of my favorites things about all the granola they sent is the coconut flakes. They don’t skimp at all!
The one bag I was a little weary of was the Apple Walnut Delight. The dried apple chips were a little too much for me, so I sent it home with my friend Laura after she visited for the weekend. The next day, she messaged me about how obsessed she had become.
Sounds about right. So clearly, if you’re not weird like me, you’ll like that one, too.
With most granola, the calorie count is a little high. Just to be expected with such things, so I really don’t consider that a negative. Instead of sugar, they use agave and honey to sweeten, which is nice because you get the same sweetness with less (in my opinion).
Would I buy it on a regular basis? Sure. It’s delicious. But as a girl on a budget, I think I’d still be inclined to first check out sales on other cereals before coming back to it.
I’m a recessionista, yo.
Your turn! What is something you tend to hoard?
I have a thing about cereal and gum. When it’s on sale, I buy it. I mean, it’s gonna be used eventually, right?

I tend to hoard pasta. The 10 for $10 sales always get me. I was sad when I ate the last of my LoveGrown Granola samples from the HLS swag bag. They were delicious and I haven’t seen them in any of the stores I shop in.
Been there- I actually let pasta go bad once. You know how long it takes for pasta to go bad?!?!?!
I still have not tried Love Grown!
I used to hoard cereal… when Jason would eat it for breakfast it doesn’t last long, you know? and the boxes only get smaller…
now do I hoard anything? probably beans. pinto beans, chickpeas. I am always using them, and if I’m at the store and didn’t check whether I need any, I always get some. you know, just in case. so far it’s all still in the kitchen, though.
Totally the same- I have a million cans. If there’s an apocalypse, I’m having a chili party. You’re invited.
I’m with you on the fruit – for the most part. I actually enjoy most fruits fresh, even if I’m not supposed to eat them. But dried or cooked (like pies or dessert?) BARF.
Fact: every thanksgiving I pick the apples out of my apple pie and eat the crust.
Dude. That seems like such a pain! I’d just… I dunno… .get a slice of pecan pie instead?
i hoard cereal too!! i’m seriously a cerealoholic and have it every day, sometimes twice a day. and since i’m so picky about which ones are my favorite, i buy them in mass quantities when there are sales/coupons. we have a storage room upstairs and half of it is cereal! glad i’m not alone on this one!!
We’re totally on the same page. Totally.
Shoes? I’m weird and rarely have an abundance of any kind of food. Probably because I eat it so quickly.
I guess I do kind of hoard wine…
Fair enough. i would argue that’s actually a better hoarding item than food…
I hoard cereal and black beans. SO weird.
Sadly, I’m not much of a hoarder. I try to have one backup of everything and that’s it (boring, right?). Now my husband on the other hand…….I stay out of his stuff b/c it would drive me nutso!
I hoard apples. Its weird. I buy a bag of apples every time I’m at the grocery store whether I need them or not. Bananas too. They’re lazy snacks for those days when I just don’t feel like packing a proper lunch.
I’m like that with carrots. And find myself packing them for lunch and saying, “seriously, why do I keep buying these?!?!?!”
I tend to hoard beer. I like to shop for it, research it, and buy it, but then I take forever drinking it. I need to stick to mix-packs!
Party at Tiff’s house… lol
Oh my WORD I need to get my hands on some of this stuff
It’s like crack. For realsies.
I do not hoard (unless you call my wine collection a hoard, but I stand by “Collection”).
However, the Hubby has a thing for hoarding canned goods- beans specifically. I bought one can of black beans, red kidney, white, garbanzo, chili, pinto…Then I leave for a week, come home, and notice HE went grocery shopping and my cabinet had about 15 new cans of beans! Same ones I bought! He said it is an important food you should never run out of.
What is the deal?!?!?! I feel like we can all have a huge burrito or chili party soon…
I hoard free samples. Even if I don’t need them. I have a packet of lotion that’s for post-baby stretch marks. Another packet of shampoo for grey hair. Um, yeah. I can’t resist!
I like the texture of the Love Grown Oats granola a lot too because it is a little softer. I find the calories to actually be a lot less than other granolas… the Simply Oats version has only 3 pts+ a serving which is super low for granola!
I’m not really a hoarder… although I did find a container of hummus that expired in July. OOps.
Been there… ha ha
Ha ha…Love this post! I go through different hoarding phases. I had a cereal phase a year or so ago. Prior to that I had a Lean Cuisine hoarding problem. There was a time when Jewel was offering them 5 for $10. I couldn’t open my fridge without an avalanche of LC’s falling out. Currently, I’ve started to hoard canned pumpkin, for obvious reasons.
My roommate just went through a frozen dinner binge. I’ve done it, too. So funny!
Did you really pick out all the raisins and cranberries? Did you at least try ONE? I’ve been hoarding crackers lately. Not sure what that’s about. Maybe I’m expecting a stomach bug to go around? Or else I’m hoping someone will stop by with cheese. That’s more likely.
I totally did! And NO! You know me better than that… lol And the way you get sick, it might do you some good to have saltines around… just sayin’.
I definitely tend to hoard cereal. If there’s a sale, I’m loading up. And peanut butter sometimes, like, if I go to Costco. Extra large double pack.
Love Grown is totally addicting — I put my hand in and can’t stop. Bar-none the best granola I”ve had.
I hoard candy/cookies that I don’t want my hubby to eat. Mwuahahahaha
I love when granola has lots of coconut flakes!! yum. I am a serious peanut butter hoarder. I currently have 4 open jars (maybe more)…
I go through phases with the pb… trying to cut back currently, but I’ve definitely had 3 or 4 open at the same time before.
bwahahaha I hoard cereal too! There are always at least 4-5 boxes on my fridge lately. And I haven’t even been eating it that often. I also hoard peanut butter (probably have 4 jars in my cupboard) and greek yogurt. it is a problem I’ve recognized but will not change.
I think a more appropriate question for me would be: what DON’T I hoard. It’s a sickness.
I may or may not have at least 4 1/2 empty bottles of bath & bodyworks lotion in my bathroom right at this very moment… (and 3 more in the guest bath).
My dad is the exact same way! Sale = stock up to him. Works out though because we never run out the essentials!
It blows my mind every time I’m reminded of your distaste for fruit! I can’t imagine! I’ve had 3 servings already today, LOL. But, I do agree with you on the cereal part of this post — I can’t get enough. We usually have 4-5 boxes at all times.
My roommates and I in college were all addicted to frosted mini wheats. When they went on sale for 5 fo $10, we each stocked up. A lot. There were over 50 boxes in our house. I couldn’t make that up.
That is amazing. You win. Hands down.
You have more cereal than we do and there are 3 people around here! But why not buy it when it’s on sale? My in-laws buy giant boxes from Costco and there’s just the 2 of them. I think most of it ends up going in the trash.
Gah! It makes me sad they let it go to waste!!!
I hoard love grown granola =) Its ridiculous! haha you just may have inspired me to do my own post on what i hoard in my pantry/kitchen! =) girl i’ve missed you so so so flipping much! i’m back to stalking you! mwah!
Jennnnn! You’ve been gone so long! I need the oliver plates back in my life!
I am a serious nut butter / cereal hoarder! My whole family hoards cereal, actually. We probably have 15 boxes in the house… and that may last a week!
I just tried Love Grown granola this week too….the Cocoa Goodness is AMAZING! We need to figure out how to get Whole Foods in Chicago to sell it!
For reals! It’s pretty good…totally totally agree.
Amy, you are hilarious.
I hoard letters. I love writing and sending letters and then I SAVE them. I have boxes and boxes of them in my basement. My husband is a way bigger packrat than me, though. “But my grandma gave me that little knicknack when I was 6!”
I was gonna say…I totally see space in that cabinet, Amy. C’mon! Step up to the plate!!
I LOVE Love Grown Granola
I just threw an empty box away… I should have properly replenished…. You caught me!
I never hoard cereal because I’m a cereal binger, i love it so much. I will finish a box in two days. or one
but I totallly hoard gum and marinara sauce If it’s on sale, I’m buying it! you can never have enough pasta sauce in the house
I always have 2 or 3 jars on hand. With ya, girl!
yeah baby!!
Hahahah!! I love this and I love that you hoard cereal! Seriously it will get eaten eventually
Hmmm would have to say I hoard tea, strange thing is I never drink tea! LOL…that and bulk goods. I buy them and rarely use them…eeeekkkk
xxoo
You’re like an episode of Seinfeld all by yourself.
Oh man. You are SO right!
I used to hoard Kashi too, but GoLean was my fave and now I can’t have it. That granola definitely sounds right up my alley. Looks so good!
Bahaha that’s what my house looks like! The boy hoards cereal and it drives me bonkers – half of them get stale and sit there. I think I hoard salty snacks: currently I have a pack of prezels, cheese crackers, regular crackers, English prawn cockail crisps, mini cheese crackers and popcorn open and on the go. Oh, and veggie chips and almonds.
I do eat real food. Honest!
