Old Habits

As adventurous and random as I try to be, there are certain habits that just don’t stop.

The serious caffeine addiction. (I am not looking to fix this one anytime in the near future.)

Cracking my knuckles.

Awkward jokes at even more awkward moments. (Do NOT let me near a funeral home.)

Unexplained/unneccessary purchases at Target. (Stupid endcaps.)

Letting my nail polish chip to embarrassing levels before doing anything about it.

Finding one new food to make and eating it over…

and over…and over again…Well… at least brussels sprouts are good for you. And I added something new- it has been quite some time since an asparagus wrap has graced my plate. So that’s not SO monotonous… right?

Moving on… more old habits:

Letting my competitive side get the best of me. The male friend of mine and I are in our third week of a little mileage challenge. He won the first week. I won the second week. And if you think I’m going to let him win again anytime soon, you’re just as crazy as I am. After last night’s 6.5-mile run (I even pushed it with a sub-8:20 pace!), I’m currently at 8 for the week. He’s at 5. Bring it.

And finally, letting my frugal ways beat out common sense. I used to get my hair dyed on the regular in college (how did I afford that???). Then I did it once on my own a few years ago because surely it’s not that difficult…

Yeah. I looked emo for a few weeks. Oops.

The blackish/dark brown combo finally grew/faded out and I’ve pretty much let it go to my natural color ever since. I swore to never attempt it on my own again. NEVER!

Well. I was bored with it. My color seemed flat. And desperate times call for desperate measures.

Jaime, a friend/coworker/former stylist, convinced me it was possible to succeed at the do-it-yourself. So after her taking me to a professional beauty supply store, walking me through the steps, then walking me through them again, I’ve attempted the impossible. She believed in me. I could do this.Crossing my fingers and praying the entire time…

You’ll see pics eventually. It’s not expected to be a drastic change either way (more just getting rid of the highlights I acquired in the summa’ sun), and there’s something about not washing my hair for at least 48 hours that has me not feeling sexy enough to be postin’ pics all up on the interwebz.

Patience.

My oily hair and I are gonna check out now. Laters!

  1. Can’t wait to see the hair! I used to die all my friends’ hair in college. In the dorms, in the shared bathroom. Everyone would line up and watch, lol. It’s really not that bad!
We have a lot in common because I also totally have the problem of frugal habits beating out common sense, unexplained splurges at Target, waiting til nailpolish removes itself, obsessing over something new and ODing on it, and def have a bad habit of laughin in inappropriate situations!

  2. My hair is oily today too, but I have no excuse for it other than laziness.
I get on major brussels sprouts kicks too. I think there are definitely worse things.
You can totally win that mileage challenge!

  3. I believe it, Redken is the good shit. Can’t wait to see!

  4. I’ve messed up my hair more times than I can count. But doing it yourself is cheaper, and therefore worth it. :)
Can’t wait to see how it turned out.

  5. I’m a knuckle cracker, too. Can’t help it!

  6. we have all the same bad habits. nail polish is the worst for me…i’ve discovered top coat. it makes a world of a difference, believe me.

  7. I’m the same way with toe nail polish (rarely do my fingers for that reason) and it drives Scott nuts. Haha. I used to color my hair myself all the time, I’ve been taking a break since I haven’t seen my natural color in a long time. Can’t wait to see your new hair color!

  8. I loath brussel sprouts, but you make them look very good!

  9. Ooo pics pics pics! When I am blonde I get it professionally done, but for dark shades, pssht, I just do it at home! Especially since I have to do it every 4 weeks #stupideffinggreys

  10. oooh, I want to know how the hair-dying went! I need to get mine did but am way too skirred to do it myself. But my wallet does not like that.

  11. I cannot go into Target and spend under $100. It’s like a mecca for impulse buys. Can’t wait to see the hair! My sister is a stylist so I hit the jackpot there. Otherwise I would totally be a DIY girl. Who can afford $200+ every two months or so? Not me!

P.S. Still super jealous about your Game 4 Tickets!!!

  12. I pretty much never wash my hair two days in a row. And actually, day three has proven to be a pretty good day for me and my less-than-pristine locks.
    Dry shampoo, baby.
    Can’t wait to see :)

  13. I think you should post the products and steps along with those pictures since I would love to do my own hair but am deathly terrified!

  14. Damn you got classy with that hair dye. I dyed my hair ONCE and it was definitely from a drug store. But I was 14. There was no reason for that dye to cost more than $8. How did it turn out??

  15. Good luck with your hair- I have no coordination, so doing it myself turns out all patchy- can’t wait to see pictures :)

  16. I want to do a fun color job on my hair. Not sure whether to go with red stripes (sooo trendy. lame) or blondy highlights. I’m bored.

  17. I currently am missing nail polish on 2 of my 10 nails. I don’t think I’m pulling it off. I’m sure your hair looks fab.

  18. Can’t wait to see your new hairdo!

And damn those Target endcaps. Target gets me every single time. I go in for “just one thing” and leave $100 poorer, having only picked up a “few” things that were “such a good deal.” How does that happen?!

  19. ha I used to get highlites and dye my hair allll the time in college (now I am wondering how I could ever afford that as well) and I tried to do it myself at home and it worked out pretty well! Saves a whole lot of money!!

I have the same problem with Target, but does not everyone?? I’ve never left the place without buying something I didn’t intend to from the beginning. ugh lol

  20. I have been thinking about doing this too. But I could never go through with it again after I died my hair a DARK shade of purple/maroon in college. Yep…light skin, light eyes, purple hair, blonde roots. Not cute.

  21. I’ve been using dye from a beauty supply store for a while, and every time I’m a little afraid something weird is going to come out of it. So far I’ve been safe though.

  22. I hope the hair turns out well! I’ve never attempted to color my own hair. I go to a hair school to get mine done and it’s a lot cheaper than a regular salon! I’m definitely on the frugal train myself :)

  23. I’m a knuckle cracker too. I HATE the habit, but can’t seem to shake it. Good luck with the hair!!

  24. Looking forward to seeing the new hair! I used to change my hair ALL THE TIME but now I’m old and boring :) . Hope your bravery inspires me to do something different for a change!

  25. ooo hope it looks fabulous! I love change!

  26. I’m not letting myself go to target until December. At least not unsupervised…

  27. ohh lala cant wait to see your new ‘do!!!!

  28. Oh dying the hair…so much fun! Well, not so much when it turns out the way mine did years ago…it was horrible, but fun to brighten things up a bit! As for your habits…you sound normal to me, caffeine addictions, awkward jokes, random purchases…yep, I call that normal. Or at least my version of normal!

  29. Ohhh I wanna see a picture of the haiiiiir!

  30. I’m going to join the ‘I wanna see pictures” bandwagon! I never had the guts to color my hair myself (back when I was coloring my hair) so kudos to you!

  31. I like coloring my own hair but somehow red or black (or whatever color I’m dye-ing my hair) ends up splattered in unimaginable places in the bathroom! Argh! can’t wait to see pics. I’m always in a food rut. I like the same things every day!
