I know what you may be thinking.
“This sounds awfully like a resolutions post, Amy. A little cliche, don’t you think?”
And I’ll respond to your question.
It is. So what? Bug off.
I do what I want.
And in 2012, apparently I am able to come up with 12 things I want to do. So that’s neat.
1. Cook some sort of fish. I never have. For some reason or another, it freaks me out.
2. Go on vacation somewhere. Did this last year by hitting Vegas. Twice if you count the bachelorette I attended there, too. Enjoyed myself a little too much. Need to make taking time off to travel a regular thing…
3. Beat my 8k time. It was so frustrating to have a goal of breaking 40 minutes and to finish my last 8k in 40:00:00. Now the question is, who’s doing it with me???
4. Figure out my new iPhone. This could take all year. Tech savvy I am not…
5. Bake with yeast. I’m more of a fan of the quick bread variety. Yeast seems like a tempremental ingredient. However, if I really do want to claim to be a “baker”, I should probably grow a pair and man up.
6. Run two more half marathons. Thought I had figured out which ones I’d be doing. Now I’m not so sure. Either way, two decent ones shouldn’t be hard to find.
7. Master the crow pose in yoga. Not that I’m planning on being a yoga master any time soon, I don’t really even enjoy it, but I bet the crow pose would be an impressive party trick…
8. See a Chicago Bulls game. I heart basketball. The Bulls are my favorite NBA team. Why hasn’t this happened yet?
9. Eat more cookies. It may be hard to beat my consumption from last year. But I’m willing to try.
10. Marry a Prince. Kate Middleton did it. Why can’t I?
*That last one is negotiable. Maybe I’d settle for “date someone who acts princely” or “meet a boy who doesn’t suck” could be substituted in later on if necessary.
Clearly I don’t take resolutions OVERLY seriously. But they are a nice way to reflect and think about a few things I want in my life.
Something I was able to do while my lovely friend Laura was visiting. Yesterday was a rest day in every way possible. We did a little shopping. A little gossiping. And got a weird craving for ice cream while out to pick up a few red boxes.
Ice cream cravings in the middle of winter are a little strange, but we were celebrating National Hangover Day properly, and didn’t question it.
So now that the holiday break is almost over, I guess it’s time to get serious and down to business, huh?
Well. Gimme one more day…

Oh, cook some fish! You’ll see how easy and delicious it is
I would like to marry a prince too. But you know, I’d settle for someone that’s nice and mildly hot.
I’d settle for that too, girl.
I may steal a few of these to add to my own list. The fish, half-marathons, and Bulls resolutions particularly. I have seen the Bulls but not since D.Rose has joined them so it’s time I headed back to the UC as well. Happy New Year!
Crow pose is a great party trick. I made Brandon try it once and he had never done it before and totally put mine to shame. Every now and then the phrase, “your crow is sub par” gets broken out, and it’s true. It was. Sigh.
bahahaha! I think I may say that, too. Of course, obviously after I master it myself and brag about it…
Breaking 40 minutes for an 8K was a lot harder than I thought it would be. However, once you do, it feels amazing.
I haven’t decided on which half marathons I’m running yet, but look into the Soldier Field 10 miler. You finish on the 50 yard line and seen on the jumbotron.
That race continues to allude me. I always contemplate it seriously and there’s always something else that comes up. Ah well.
8k… Have you signed up for the Shamrock Shuffle? I’m also trying to get under 40 this time around too! My PR is 40:49 in 2009 (the year of the frozen tundra). Best of luck in meeting your goal! Maybe I’ll see you in the starting corral?
I was going to ask about the Shamrock Shuffle as well. Kelly and I will be there with our misfit running group in green sparkle skirts
I actually did that one a couple of years ago! If I do it, it’ll probably be an impulse- sorta prefer the smaller races, ya know?
1) Fish can be super easy to make – I have some fantastic recipes I’ll email!
5) Try pioneer woman’s cinamon rolls to start. Lot of work…. soooooooooooooooooo worth it. But the yeast isn’t too tricky and the instructions are easy to follow.
10) Harry is still single, yo. I went through a phase of wanting to marry royally, as well. If you google you’ll find all kinds of hot princes from small countries we never hear about. Maybe that trip you want to take will be to somewhere in Europe? The swedish one is very pretty.
I like the list! I still am working on mine because I too am struggling to think of 12 good ones. Meh well.
I hear Harry was in Vegas not that long ago. Did I miss my chance?!?!?
And definitely email those! I need all the help I can get!
Oh and I was going to do 12. Then I couldn’t come up with 2 more. How unambitious am I?!?!
Love the goals. I was thinking of you the other day wondering if you were relaxing on some island with an umbrella clad drink
Agree with Kace, fish is super easy, when in doubt make a lemon pepper tilapia or soy glazed salmon. Or any kind of shrimp! You’re the second person I’ve read this wk saying it scares me which is funny because I love it I’m just too cheap to buy shrimp or fish.
Bahaha! Yeah, that would have been lovely. Trust me- it had crossed my mind a few times of where I could have been. Ah well.
Meet a boy who doesn’t suck?! I’m totally down for that. That’s quite a challenge…
Fish isn’t that hard! Don’t be scared!
I’m looking forward to hopefully doing a mud run with my bestie… FUN!
I want to do a mud run so badly! How fun would that be?!?!
#9!!! hahah i love it so much.
Meeting a boy that doesn’t suck would definitely be a good alternative. Sounds like you have a plan for the new year. I am with you on the vacation thing too. I’m so glad we took our boys somewhere this year. It was the first family vacation we ever went on. Although, next time I want some rest and relaxation with it…I’m voting for the beach. Happy New Year Amy!
Hahaha!! You deserve a prince honey!!!! WOOO HOO!!!
Your list is awesome! Set the intentions and rock them!
xxoo
I like to think so, too! ha ha… if only one would travel through Chicago on international business…
How have you not gone to a Bulls game? You are in Chicago silly!!
Girl- I know. SHAME!
When you marry your price, can you check and see if he has a single brother for me?
Resolutions posts may be cliche, but that’s because they’re fun! And I love having it to look back on!
What a perfect list!!
Can we share #10? This girl has student loans that are about to grace her presence..blah Okay let’s be honest, meeting ANY normal boy would do justice for me..all of them suck in Chicago ugh
Ohh Bulls games are SO SO SO much fun. Best sporting event by far. Noah gets the crowd going each time. I go all the time (my friend is a season pass holder) so we can go together!
I love #10. I should’ve thought of that…LOL!!!
I’ve pulled out crow pose at a party – it went well.
I just cooked fish (besides shrimp) for the first time a few weeks ago! It’s so easy and delicious, too!
And I’m on bored with #9. Bring.it.on.
Just found your blog and I’m loving it! I’ve also never cooked fish before…I’ve been wanting to cook salmon or something soon though!
I never do well with resolutions but yours all seem like attainable goals. I agree that crow pose would make a great party trick! Happy new year!
Oooooh. I should have put a Bulls game on my list too. Those are so much fun live! I love your goal list.
Good luck!
Fish freaks me out, too. No idea why. Good luck!
Maybe you can show your boobs at a Bulls game to meet a suitable mate? Then you can knock off 2 resolutions at one time. (This is where my mind goes)
I am terrible at cooking fish! And crow pose eludes me as well. Not sure what it is but I realize that some things just won’t happen for me. And I am at peace with that now.
Happy New Year Amy!
Happy New Year! I adore these faux resolutions! I’m banking on giving you a good run for your money on the cookie challenge. As for cooking fish, I cannot stand the skin, maybe start with a naked fish.
Best to you in 2012! Cannot wait to see what you get into this year.

If you find a prince to marry, you’ll have to be sure and tell me how you did it. That is my ultimate life goal. You know, besides winning the lottery and never working again.
Well, I can at least help you with the cooking fish thing! Family dinner?
I suck at crow pose. I swear it’s because my hamstrings are too tight, though that makes no sense.
Fish isn’t as scary as it seems! But be sure to ventilate. The smell lingers.
I’ll be sure to pass along any princes that hit on me. It happens all the time. So annoying.
Do the Wineglass Half Mary- lol! I love your resolutions list! I need to get on that- but all I have is “don’t die while training for half-marathon” so far…
Great list! If you need someone to tackle a Bulls basketball game, you know where I live
I’ve never been to one either.
ahhaha I love your resolutions. I just cooked fish for the first time last night! It was actually good and I usually hate fish!
I like how your resolution went from finding a prince to just finding a guy who doesn’t suck.
Also, you gotta go to a Bulls game! They are so fun!

[...] And it’s my new snack for after-dinner tv time. Only to be consumed after a well-balanced day, of course. That includes a solid 4.5-mile run at an 8:18 pace (which seems to be a trend these days). And a healthy dinner in attempts to not wreck my workout (with the exception of the cereal made of crack I just displayed above).Lookit! I made salmon all on my own!!! My salmon sensei will be so proud. And I can officially cross that one off the ol’ 2012 bucket list. [...]
