Coffee Date

“Sunday coffee sounds perfect. Can we do earlier on Sunday?”
“Sure… uh… what time exactly is early?”
“11 or 11:30?”
“Perfect! I was really nervous ‘early’ was going to mean 8:00 and I would have shown up looking pretty rough…”
“Trust me, I would have too! I know how your weekends go… there are rules to follow!”

This girl totally gets me.

Which is why she is awesome.

Love her!
On a side note- does it bother anyone else that the flower on the vase is broken off? I picked at it the entire time. I wonder if she noticed...

Sarena from Non-Dairy Queen happened to be in Chicago with her husband all weekend and was darling enough to meet up with me for coffee and girly gossip before they headed back home!

If you’ve ever read her blog, you know she’s a sweetheart.

If you’ve ever read mine, you know I’m a…

Well.

I’m honestly not sure. Guess you could fill in the blank. Many answers would be acceptable. Either way, I was excited she wanted to hang out.

We chatted away nonstop over coffee. Luckily, she didn’t judge me and the massive breakfast burrito I ordered to cure my grogginess from the late night before.

Because not all nights are low profile

Twinsies! Photo credit goes to the only other guy at the cafe who was very nice being as how we interrupted whatever work he was doing. Thanks sir!

After sadly getting ready to leave and hugging like 10 times, we parted ways.

She had plans for the day and I had a mission to beat the rain home.

However, as the girl who is easily distracted, I made a quick pit stop on the way back to the train stop.

This is one of those things I've seen from far away, but never up close. I'm a total nerd when it comes to all the random buildings/sculptures in Chicago. Rain be damned, I had to take the risk to see it!

“Agora” is definitely one of our creepier sculptures. But still kind of cool to see because of how big it is (over 100 9-foot headless men).

Afterwards, I retreated back to my respective spot on the couch to watch Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

You guys were right. Don’t watch with kids or parents.

As disturbing as it was, I still slept like a rock. Exhaustion trumped fear. Which is good. The early morning workout was calling my name.

After some resistance training via the windy walk to the gym, I did my standard routine as of late, which includes 22 minutes on the stairmill and 20 minutes on the elliptical. Followed by a visit to the big bad weight room to pretend to know what I’m doing do a few random arm and ab machines/free weights.

On the walk back home, I noticed the increase in the amount of runners hitting the streets.

I then noticed how much I’ve been missing my regular outdoor running.

I should do something about this.

Tomorrow, of course. I’ll let the kids in Boston do all the work today. Good luck, everyone!

  1. My one friend and I always seem to wear similar clothing items on a regular basis. It might have to do with the fact we work together… and shop together. Oh well. Glad you had a fun weekend! :D

  2. I’m sure you are a sweetheart too! And the second I get to Chicago we will be hanging out. And you’ll see that I’m not as nice as Sareena probably is but we’ll still have a good time. :)

Happy Monday Amy! I hope this week is a good one for you.

  3. So jealous you got to meet Sareena!!! How fun! That’s a cool meet up :)

  4. I actually really like that sculpture. Yeah, a little creepy, but its randomness out there makes me happy. Plus I like that area in general. (proximity to Soldier Field and whatnot) I’m impressed that you made it out yesterday- it was so gross! And the wind knocked my chairs on my balcony over!

  5. What I want to know, is how someone comes up with the idea to do a sculpture of a bunch of giant, headless men.

  6. I was amazed at how well the movie portrayed the book. Disturbing on so many levels. But intensely good.

  7. I’ve watched both Girl with the Dragon Tattoo moview (US and Foreign) and both are pretty darn shocking. Did you like it? That sculpture is pretty unique.

  8. Those sculptures are freaky, yo.

  9. Fun times! Glad to hear you got out and about Saturday. I love low-key – but not quite as much as I love not-low-key.

  10. Let’s fix that outdoor running. Maybe you can actually high-five me this time. =P

  11. There have been so many sculptures that people have posted lately that I’ve never seen in Chicago. I guess I need to get out more. Those are a tad bit freaky though!

  12. Yay for blogger meet-ups! I miss outdoor running, too, actually. :( Need to change that! And I want to see Girl With the Dragon Tattoo…though my plan was to read it first. I should get on that!

  13. I still can’t believe I didn’t know Boston was today. Who am I?

Sounds like a lovely coffee date!

  14. Thank you so much for making the trek out to see me! Now I can’t wait for next time! No judgements on the burrito, if I could eat it, I would! I skipped my workout today since we just made it home. That walk back to the hotel had me laughing out loud at how silly I looked. I swear the wind was blowing me backwards during part of the walk. It was CRAZY! Oddly, my legs are sore today. I’m thinking that walk was harder than I thought. Oh and I saw that crazy sculptor too! Art can be so strange some times…

Thanks again! You are such a sweetheart (that should answer your question from above)!

    • No kidding! I walked way longer than planned after meeting up with you. And the wind was just awful!

It was so great meeting you, Sarena! Let’s do this again soooon…

I also just realized I accidentally threw in an extra “e” in your name in the posts. My apologies!

  15. Oh, even my husband didn’t watch Dragon Tattoo (he likes happy movies, or ones where lots of things blow up). Such an intriguing mystery though!

I will say that also watching the European one is definitely worth it!

  16. Holy crap where are these creepy things at and why have I not ever seen/heard of them? gosh maybe I need to get out more (away from just the chicago bar scene that is haha).

I LOVED GWDT..they did a great job following the book.

  17. I love Sarena! She really is a sweetheart. That’s great that you got to meet in person!

  18. I’ve actually got the bug lately to start running again… don’t know why, but probably the increasingly nice weather and increasing tightness on my jeans waistline.
Also this makes me even more excited for sisterwivesathon.

    • Ha ha… enjoy it while you can! I’m looking forward to it tomorrow. But also know when I need to lay off for a while. Hence the heavy use of the elliptical the last week or two…

      I seriously cannot wait. Seriously.

  19. Yay for blogger meet-ups! Which reminds me, we need to get together again soon! I’m so glad outdoor running weather is back. The treadmill has been boring me to tears.

  21. How adorable are you ladies – gorgeous! I’m checking her out now.

Whenever I see someone running when I’m on my way to or from work I get jealous – awful habit I know:(
