More Randomness For The Files

1. I hate packing peanuts. They’re awful. Why not bubble wrap? It doesn’t make a mess and is fun to pop. It’s the obvious way to go. But packing peanuts? They make a mess of my work area. And when they’re not all over the place, they’re clinging to my pants, my top, or whatever else on my person. Much like my last boyfriend. I didn’t like it then and I don’t like it now. STOP WITH THE PACKING PEANUTS!

2. My college friend is coming tonight to stay with me through the weekend. He doesn’t care if my place is dirty (trust me- I’ve seen his and that would be highly hypocritical), but yet things needed to be done before his arrival. Laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. Which means the entirety of this week has been meticulously planned out.

Something I didn’t plan for? Cubs/Sox/Bulls/Blackhawks traffic. An extra 30-45 minutes spent on the interstate each night is really screwing this up.

It’s also screwing with my sanity, but at this point, that’s a non-issue.

3. My obsessively planned out week has left me with no time to watch the newest episodes of New Girl and Modern Family, along with a few others I don’t care to admit I tape on a weekly basis. This saddens me. #FirstWorldProblems

4. Another thing that saddens me? A zit on my cheek. Seriously. My cheek? GET OFF OF MY FACE.

Excuse me while I go drown it in zapzit.

5. Baking happened last night. We’ll discuss that later. But the sugar high may or may not have been the reasoning for nonsleep and the lackluster workout this morning. It was less than stellar, but I guess it’s better than hitting snooze and turning over. Which was an option I weighed heavily. 20 minutes on the stairmill and a 1-mile run before saying screw it and going home to finish out with a few circuits of No More Trouble Zones by Jillian.

So at least it was something (with weights!).

That means I can eat more baked goods, yes?

6. Last night also marked a momentous occasion. Remember how I talk about my parents supplying me with food from the garden back home? One of the things they hauled up was a big box of sweet potatoes. Each one being the size of my arm. Last night marked the end of those sweet potatoes.

Asparagus grilled cheese and sweet potatoes. I used a slice of Munster and some crumbled feta for the sandwich. Not sure if cheese experts would approve or not, but it's what I had on hand. And I liked it. So whatev.

It’s amazing I haven’t turned orange.Which is unfortunate. Because Pauly D is cute and I need to attract his attention somehow…

7. I have had the worst time trying to track down a copy of 50 Shades of Grey. Or at least a free copy (I’m looking at you, Chicago Public Library.) Apparently we all have dirty minds and need to read this book. Like now.

8. The phrase “This is my Friday!” really rubs me the wrong way. It was really only amusing the first 50 times I saw it as an update on facebook.

Ok, actually, it never really was.

However, if I were to consider using it, today would be a good day.

I think you know where I’m going with this.

Extended weekend. Holla’.

  1. I strongly hate packing peanuts as well. Did you know they have some that disolve in water? I guess you just dump them all into the sink and run water on them and they are out of your life forever!

  2. OMG, Isn’t New Girl the best show ever? I love it so much!
    Enjoy the long weekend!

  3. That book. I have no words. Like I said on email, we were reading excerpts from it out loud at the bach party over the weekend, and it is absurd. Like I can’t even believe someone had these thoughts absurd.

  4. I watched New Girl Tues and it was amazing as always. I think the day Jess & Nick finally hook up I might actually squeal out loud.

  5. I hope Dermot Mulroney sticks around on New Girl!

  6. Yikes- sounds like you’ve got a lot going on- I hope your weekend is great, and that the traffic slows down for you!

  7. Wait, that book is dirty? I need to find me a copy! You know, zits have no tact. I swear they know you are about to see someone you haven’t seen in forever or a first meeting and they show their ugly heads. Good luck getting rid of the beast!

  8. I gave up and spent $9.99 on the Kindle edition of Fifty Shades of Grey. So far it reminds me of Nine and A Half Weeks. So, you could always read that if you can’t get your hands on Fifty Shades.

  9. I hate when I can NOT get packing peanuts off my body.

that sounds kind of weird, but I think you know what I mean

Ugh, zits always pop up in the weirdest places. SO annoying. .

  10. Packing peanuts are the worst. They get EVERYWHERE. You know what’s worse than a zit on your cheek? A zit right above your lip. EW I’m so gross right now. Did you end up getting 50 Shades? i’m halfway through the 2nd one.. It’s not the best writing, but it’s good!! You def get sucked in.

  11. Down with packing peanuts!!

    No, seriously.

  12. Wait, you took off tomorrow TOO? I’m jealous of you guys. Also- you just said Pauly D is cute…have you officially lost it? He looks like Skeeter from Doug!

  13. Most of the phrases people write on Facebook rub me the wrong way…this is one of the few I haven’t seen yet!

Pauly D? Is he from Jersey Shore? Please tell me you are kidding when you wrote you think he’s cute. Please?

  14. First, why have I never heard of this book? If it’s super inappropriate I’m already disappointed in myself for not having already read it. I’m a fan of anything inappropriate.
Second – I feel for you on the zit situation. My skin has gone into a full on rebellion, and I do not appreciate it at all. Seriously, I’m 27 years old, this shouldn’t be an issue anymore.

  15. I wish this was my Friday. Calling it “Friday eve” is a nice thought, but it’s not getting me any closer to Friday’s happy hour.

Enjoy time with your friend. I’m sure you will!

  16. Ha ha ha. I am annoyed when people announce their Friday on FB too, but you make it cute (and this should not bother me – every other weekend is a 3-day weekend for me).

I think you should roll around in packing peanuts and take a picture to share with us!!!

My family is coming this weekend. I am not even sure if I am going to bother cleaning. How awful is that?!

  17. My cat loves packing peanuts, but she’s alone on that love.
I just started 50 shades on my Kindle…so far so good!

  18. #2, #3, #4, #8-totally describe me! Especially #2!!! Same goes for when I’m traveling, I always feel the need to come home to a spotless place. I can’t shake that habit!

  19. hehe, “this is my friday” is only amusing to the person who doesn’t have to work tomorrow…

  20. I keep forgetting to get a DC library card. Must do this.
I would totally have planned my week as well, much as I did this week so I can escape to AC this weekend.
    Have fun with your visitor!

  21. I keep hearing about this book….sounds like summer reading material for sure. I should probably get on a waitlist at the library now though…

  22. I have the zit cure! Apple cider vinegar. I know it sounds weird, but hear me out. Use it as a toner after you wash your face and I swear in a week or less you’ll have clear skin. I started doing this a month ago and my skin hasn’t been this clear in years.

  23. I also have a pimple on my cheek.. .and right near my lip (looks like a herpes blister- hawt stuff right there) so i feel ya lady
I need to get my hands on that book too! My mom is reading it right now (lolz) and she is giving it to me after.. hurry up woman!
    Enjoy your extended weekend!

  24. I saw that book at the bookstore this weekend but had no idea what it was about – until it was on all the major news stations this week!! Crazy how people go nuts over anything with some spice! (putting it poilitely :)

  25. Have fun with your friend! Guys are so easy to entertain…much easier than women.

As for the zit. I’m right there with ya! I’ve had this one on my chin for a week and I’ve Stridexed the crap out of ….now it’s just a patch of dry skin. Ew. TMI…sorry!

  26. I haven’t started 50 Shades yet – have you found a copy yet? I am trying to get through another book, but might just say screw it. Your grilled cheese with asparagus looks interesting!! Never would have thought of that.

  27. haha as always, you crack me up. Hope you had an awesome weekend with your friend!! Guys are just so much less high maintenance than girls so you will have a blast, I am sure.

What is this book you all are talking about? Never heard of it!

  28. Can I just say – traffic is really effing with my mindset as well! Holy crap I have wasted so much time in it on my way home. The Kennedy is evil… I am just about at my wits end….

  29. [...] After being sad about not being able to track down the 50 Shades trilogy, a friend helped me out and let me borrow all three! With the help of my rest weekend, I’ve [...]
