I didn’t do anything over the 4th of July holiday.
Now. Before you judge me for being all un-American, please note there was not one free weekend in the month of June. Or for most of May. Since this holiday was dumped smack dab into the middle of the week, I said “NO”.
No to all plans. Not that I necessarily didn’t want to do things. But not one option allowed me to be in bed before 11 on a school night.
So I rested.
Well that’s a lie. I actually ran. But that’s just what I do with free time. Don’t feel bad for me. It was enjoyable.
The original plan was to get up at 7 yesterday morning and make it a nice run outside before it got too heated out there.
At 7, I opened the front door and took a step outside to check out what I’d be working with.
Then I stepped back inside, close the door, and said I’ll go the gym at 8 instead.
What?
I did 15 minutes on the stairmill and ran 4.2 miles on the treadmill before deciding it was a holiday and I needed to celebrate.
Celebrate by having AAA jump my broken car (dead battery) and driving it to my mechanic’s shop.
You don’t party like that? No?
Good. Because I had a migraine going on for most of that ordeal. It was awesome. Luckily, my good friend Mon picked me up from the mechanic and had no problem assisting me in my quest for a little caffeine.
The cookie was her idea. And it actually helped. I think the extreme amount of butter sedated the head pain while the sugar perked me straight into a better mood.
Who knew the cure to migraines was located at your local bakery?
Don’t quote me on that. I also took a prescribed migraine pill before that.
We’ll call it a combo of the two that did the trick.
So yeah. That and some Red Box action was the extent of my 4th of July. And it made me SO happy (minus the migraine thing, obviously).
Things got done. I rested up. And we’re only 2 work days away from the weekend.
Fabulous on so many levels.
Thanks for the mental health day, America.
Happy Thursday!

Not to bum you out, but my holiday sounds eerily similar to yours. I got up at 6:30 so I could actually work out before it was literally 100 degrees and then crashed the rest of the day with some movies and the AC. Now it’s back to work and longing for Sunday when it’s supposed to get down to 85 degrees. Yay!
Hope your migraine is better. Super crappy timing…
I squealed with delight that it’s only getting up to low 90′s next week. Pathetic! :p
Holidays are to do whatever the heck you like. Car broken into?? That absolutely sucks and feels violating. Sending uber bad karma that jerk’s way.
Cookie Monster never has headaches, who knew!
I think I may need to clarify! My battery was dead- that’s all! No worries!
Good point about the cookie monster thing, though. Cookies may need to become a mandated part of my diet. For health reasons. Obviously.
We relaxed yesterday, too (well, after the hottest parade watching EVER). An air conditioned movie theater was our choice of celebrating………..it was too hot for anything else!
Sorry about the migraine. My holiday was pretty chill too. I still got to bed ridiculously early, did a load of laundry, and spent a little time outside. Sure – it was good to have the day off, but by “holiday” standards – this one was pretty weak.
That, my friend, sounds like a lovely little holiday.
You seriously made me feel so much better about not doing a dang thing either. Ran on the 4th at 7, went back to sleep for two hours, headed to the mall, watched dumb TV and went to bed early. Roll on the weekend…I hear ya on the “packedness” of June/July weekends.
That sounds amazing. Minus the migraine and car trouble. Sorry for that
Sorry about the car. Mon seems to really know how to take care of you! What a great friend!
I’m with you on the outside workouts. This is miserable! I ran at the gym too, but I think the air quality is so bad that it’s stuck in the gym too! I hope you have a better day today!
I heart you. Sorry to hear about your car. My old car had some kind of battery drain and it always had to be jump started. I forgot that tiny detail and stopped at the grocery store on the way home from work one day and yep– had to call the hubs to come get me. Grr!
I didn’t do a dang thing for the 4th either so no judgement here. Unless of course you count cleaning my whole house from top to bottom and doing yard work. Hey, an extra saturday was NOT going to waste!
Minus the mechanic and the migraine, that sounds like a pretty good holiday. Sometimes staying home is really the best option.
I stayed in yesterday as well and it was much-needed, so no shame! You gotta do what you gotta do.
What meds do you take for your migraines? I think I need to get some for mine. Especially if they help you!
Hope things worked out with your car. At least you got some much needed downtime in though.
I’ve had low key 4ths in the past myself; usually just grill with my family and watch fireworks on TV. So, no judgment here!
I think that resting is a perfect way to spend a holiday!
