Friday Follies

1. I need to be less awkward in life and maybe work on my game for the ride home on the train earlier this week. The hottie that came and sat by me didn’t get a wink from me. Or sexy eye contact. Or a witty comment or two. Instead, he got whacked in the side of the leg as I had to shift in my seat to make room for more people.

I have no idea why he didn’t want to chat me up.

2. Rainstorms at night are much less fun to try to sleep through now that I sleep on the top floor of an apartment with a tin roof.

Sure, there are worse things. But tell that to sleep-deprived Amy. Just go ahead and try.

3. I’m running a themed race next week. My friend from St. Louis is helping me with this because I have no access to the exact thing I want to wear and she does (you’ll see). Now, the entire el car I rode last night knows my measurements and bust size. And maybe my displeasure with how there’s more junk in the trunk and a lack of anything substantial “in the front”.

It wouldn’t have been so bad had our train not been delayed for 15 minutes on the tracks… just sitting there… STOP LOOKING AT ME!

Wow, I am super awkward.

4. My taste in classic literature has been a bit on the snarky side of things these days:

I’m just finishing up “Me Talk Pretty One Day” and just starting “Jeneration X”. I’ve read several books by both David Sedaris and Jen Lancaster. The sarcasm kills me.

David Sedaris makes me feel better about being an awkward individual.

And I want Jen Lancaster to be my BFF. She lives here, so I know she’s totally going to give me a call so we can hang out.

Patiently waiting…

And waiting…

5. There’s much to be done this weekend, including a long run in the morning, so to prepare, I’m doing my usual Friday night in.

Thank goodness the wine glasses are clean.

One of the few things that are around here.

Ah well. Another thing to tackle. Tomorrow.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. I’ve read and reread Sedaris too many times to count. Between him and Augusten Burroughs, I feel relatively normal(ish.) I’m waiting for Tina Fey or Amy Poehler to be my BFF…waiting, waiting. Sigh…

I also need junk in my trunk and in my hood, so at least you’re better off than me.

  2. I second the Augusten Burroughs recommendation- he is great! And Jen Lancaster…she kills me. Can’t get enough, but I haven’t read that one yet, so let me know what you think!

  3. I LOVE David Sedaris! I need to check out Jen Lancaster. I’m all about snarky reading! I can’t wait to see what theme you are wearing for that run. I’m still trying to run well in running clothes…I can’t even imagine a costume! I hope you have a great weekend! The wine glasses are definitely clean here too and thank God it’s FRIDAY!

  4. I’ve been taking the train (Metra) these past few weeks and it has definitely been an interesting experience…so many “unique” people. Delays are no fun either…my train on Tuesday was delayed for an hour!

    Happy Friday :)

  5. hahahah that e-card!

  6. haha you want awkward? I was showing the girl at the bank a picture on my phone at the very same time as a text popped up on my screen. Go ahead and ask me what it said . . . it was SO incredibly uncomfortable, and completely hilarious.

  7. Me Talk Pretty One Day is my all-time favorite Sedaris book. It makes my top 5 books of all time, too. :) Hope you liked it! And look, I’m pretty much the queen of awkward…you’re in good company.

  8. I need to read a little more of the sarcastic variety. Both the books I’m reading right now are kind of dark and broody. Not doing good things for my mood.
I’m so excited to hear/see how that race goes!!

  9. I love anything Sedaris writes. He’s pretty much the only reason I ever listen to This American Life. HIm and Mike Birbiglia. That Lancaster book is on my list of books to read, but I’m waiting for the library toget a copy. Impatiently, I might add.

I’ve got more awkward stories than I can count. I am the QUEEN.

  10. Yesssssssssssssss I’m not the only socially awkward one :)

  11. I need a new book to read and I think I would love both of those… and omg. I am SO socially awkward.

  12. So I used to LOVE Jen Lancaster. Her early books were amazing. And then I thought she lost her touch? Maybe I need to re-evaluate?

And being socially awkward is something I excel in. Just know that you are not the only one!!

    Have a great weekend Amy!

  13. Thanks for the book recs. I love myself a good snarky read :)
Good luck on your long run this morning!

  14. [...] Sigh. I told you I was awkward. [...]
