Cake Pops

My friend D’s bridal shower and bachelorette was this weekend. We celebrated her happiness and how exciting it is for her to be getting married next month.

I first met D through my friend Mon a couple of years back. We had both heard a lot about one another, and hit it off right away. I think it’s our love of the color pink, cupcakes and sugar.

It’s definitely not our love of cake pops.

I love making them. They’re cute. Fun. And easy to get your friends to help out with.

Her opinion? Well. It’s not so favorable.

She may or may not have attempted making them once. 4 trips to the grocery store and $100 later, not to mention an irritated boyfriend who suggested she just go buy some at a bakery after the first few trips? I believe they were a success. But at that point, it was more the principle of just conquering the Paula Deen recipe.

I believe it was a “melting of the chocolate” issue.

She now hates cake pops. And Paula Deen. And me every time I give her a hard time or feature them on the blog (hey girl, heeeeeeyyyy!).

So I couldn’t help but laugh when I walked into the private room of a restaurant where her shower was being held.

Copious amounts of cake pops!

It couldn’t have been any more ironic.

Other things there were copious amounts of?

Tiramisu. Cupcakes. Candied almonds. Sheet cake. Hershey’s kisses.

Alright, so the cake had strawberries in the middle. But that doesn’t mean I won’t eat some of the buttercream icing off the top… I mean… when you’re handed cake, you should never turn it down…

The bachelorette may have been a low-key dinner out, followed up by drinks at a chill bar afterwards. But I still had a heck of a hangover the next day.

From sugar. Nothing else.

For a girl with an extremely high sugar tolerance, this is saying something.

But wanna know why I love D so much?

The first thing she did when getting up yesterday morning was go to the mini refrigerator in the hotel and exclaim, “cake pops for breakfast!”.

It’s like we were meant to be.

And it sounds like her hatred towards cake pops has subsided a bit.

Every Sunday morning should start with cake pops in bed.

And, in turn, this means every Monday should be full of salad, salad, salad, and maybe more salad.

It’s all about the balance, kids. Am I right?

  1. This is hilarious! I too have tried many times to make cake pops. Most recently, they melted in my car before the event. Sigh.

So glad you had a wonderful celebration!

  2. Ha – I have not yet attempted cake pops, but I don’t see them in my future. However, bring on the tiramisu!

  3. Love it! And yes, balance is key! A little cake pop or 2 never hurt anyone!

  4. I was thinking of you this am and wondering how the weekend of festivities were! Did you get your run in late yesterday?

My NYC BFF had to make cake pops for an event and hated it after too. They sound delicious though :)

  5. Cake pops are dangerous. Very, very dangerous.

  6. This is priceless. Do you know what’s even more priceless – remember the few pounds I was telling you about yesterday morning? I lost them this weekend. I guess this settles it – I’m going to have to introduce cake pops and sweet potatoe fries into my life on a more regular basis because apparently veggies and fruit and water everyday does not cut the mustard.

  7. I want to make cake pops but they intimidate me for some reason. I also have an aversion to food on sticks..not sure if cake on a stick falls in the same category.

  8. I LOVE cakepops but HATE making them. It IS a melting chocolate issue! And also trauma from the time I had to make 150 for my friend’s shower…at 1 am the morning of..ha. Looks like a great weekend!

  9. I have never had a cake pop before, can you believe that? It feels pretty unacceptable, and I have no excuse for it.

  10. My friend’s mom made cake pops for my mom’s memorial. I was so busy visiting that I didn’t even get to try one! Send me some please? haha

  11. I’m sure I would tend to side with your friend if I ever attempted making cake pops myself. Some things are better left to the professionals. ;) Looks like an awesome dessert spread!

  12. I don’t think I would ever attempt to make cake pops, but I would never EVER turn down eating them. Especially for breakfast.

  13. I believe it’s blasphemy to hate cake pops, no? For breakfast? A little hair of the dog never hurt anyone ;) haha

  14. I have never had a cake pop. But now I need to get my paws on them, immediately.

  15. Sometimes I contemplate taking on a project like cake pops but then I wake up and realize it’s just a bad financial decision. Too funny!

Very cute though. Not sure I would turn them down either!

  16. I could really use some balance. This road trip has been murder for healthy eating. And since I’m sitting all day…

  17. YES!!! My friend makes cake balls, Oreo ones, and I eat them like M&Ms. I can’t take a lot of cake, so having it squished with icing, simply perfect.

    Cute shower!

  18. I love cake pops! But then I have never tried making them. Let me rephrase and say I love EATING cake pops. ;)
I love the idea of them being wrapped all cute with that darling charm
Glad you had a nice weekend!

  19. I love you, but I HATE Paula Dean a.k.a. Satan’s Bride. Thank you so much for celebrating and making the weekend so incredibly special. And yes, the cakes pops were amazing. And ironic. I swear if I get a Paula Dean cookbook for the wedding I am going to go all Bridezilla and shove a cake pop somewhere rather unpleasant.
