The Kids Love Those

The company I now work for has regular biometric screenings (physicals) as part of the health and wellness program they offer. Which means I had to fast yesterday morning (on a stupid Tuesday, no less!). Which was a problem for several reasons:

1. I work out in the mornings. Not eating anything after a 4.4-mile run? Not super ideal.
2. Not letting Amy have breakfast? Bad idea.
3. Not letting Amy have coffee? Hide your children and don’t make any sudden movements or I will TAKE YOU DOWN.

The above was written this morning after having coffee, so it’s not just me overdramatizing. Cold hard facts, folks.

Anyway, turns out you CAN have black coffee if you so choose before such things. Just no sugar or creamer. Which would have been nice to know at any point other than as I was waiting to have my name called. Jerks.

We’re not going to talk about it.

So I get my blood drawn and don’t think twice about it because I’ve had it drawn a few times as of late and it really doesn’t bother me one bit as long as the actual needle isn’t within my direct vision.

The nurse and I are giggling and gossiping and just having a great time. Then my awkward nature shines through:

Nurse: Sorry, these band-aids they gave us are just awful.
Me: It’s ok. I have Disney princess ones in my purse if I need a better one later.
Nurse: Awww… you must have little ones at home. How old are they?
Me: No. They’re for me. I don’t have kids.

*crickets*

Nurse: Well… that’s fun.

I really don’t understand why that’s so weird. However, it’s not like I had time to dwell on it because as soon as she slapped the band-aid on me (which I did, in fact, switch out later for Disney princess), I was out the door running towards the closest source of caffeine I could find. Priorities.

On a related note, my weight has somehow managed to keep balanced as I continue to eat and drink things of an indulgent nature during this whole “dating” process I’ve been going through. We’re not going to question it so much, just appreciate it, breathe a sigh of relief, and move on with our day.

Especially since last night we went for BBQ because it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

Yeah. I know. I like his style, too.

Anyway, enjoy the hump day, kids. The weekend will be here before you know it.

  1. Last time I had blood drawn I got a Crayola band-aid that looked just like a crayon. I asked for two extras, “just in case.” We are awesome.

  2. Hahaha I HATE getting my blood drawn. I always get super lightheaded. But I’m always disappointed when they don’t have fun band aids :( I mean come on. If I’m going through that pain, I think I deserve one.

  3. Fasting is rough for me too! Seriously…and no caffeine makes me a mess in the morning! The kids know to stay away until momma gets the good stuff! I’m glad you made it through!

  4. I remember going to a wellness exam at work and questioning the nurse because according to her I shrunk by an inch. I’m only 5’2 to begin with. It annoyed me so much for some reason!

  5. I wish they’d offer to little butter cookies I got as a kid, with some Kool Aid.

You are proof that if you work hard you can play hard!

  6. I wanna’ go out for bbq on a Tuesday. Can I start dating again? ;) I think it’s hilarious she wasn’t into your Disney bandaids. Who outgrows Disney? I think she’s probably a witch or a wicked stepmother.

  7. Um, I love that you had a more fun band-aid to slap on. And agreed on the fasting, I am a terror when I’m not allowed to eat anything.

  8. I get you girl, and I love your band-aids. We don’t need no kids to enjoy a Disney Princess now and then. And I love that you guys are enjoying food adventures together. That’s one of my favorite parts of dating :)

  9. Ugh! The pre-blood-test fast. I had to do that on Tuesday, too. It threw off my whole day! And I didn’t even have a fun Disney Princess bandaid to make it better.

  10. You should’ve just claimed B as your “little one”. I mean, she IS obsessed with the Bieber after all. :)

  11. That’s not weird at all. In this sad, cruel world we need all the little joys we can get!

  12. I’m such a wuss when I have to get blood drawn. I always look away and warn them I get fainty… it’s a little embarrassing.

  13. I have been meaning to get my blood taken so I can do a cholesterol test. I’ve never done one and I guess you’re supposed to do it in your 20s to establish a baseline. Last time I went to the doctor, I was all ready for the test, but the nurse never told me about the fast, so I had to reschedule. I’m not looking forward to it…

  14. This post came a week too late. I would have liked to know verymuch that black coffee is allowed when I went in for my blood work last week!!

  15. I would seriously die if I couldn’t eat early in the am. I usually wake up hungry and it’s not a pretty sight if don’t eat!!!

  16. We better get more deets about this guy this weekend ;)

I sent my grown-up (older than me) friend a box of Hello Kitty band-aids for her to use. And she does use them. Ha. She doesn’t have kids.

  17. Oh my gosh I definitely giggled at the thought of your princess bandaids and the conversation with the nurses. I’ve had to get a lot of blood drawn lately for thyroid problems that I’m used to it and seeing the needle doesn’t even phase me. But they don’t even give bandaids! All I get is a cotton ball and that stretchy tape. I’m writing in a complaint… or maybe I will just bring my own princess bandaids. ;)
