Acting Out

Spring is almost here. The weather is nice (I consider mid-50′s nice). It’s a little greener outside. The air even seems fresher, don’t ya think?

It’s wonderful.

Although it makes people restless. More restless than normal.

I felt the need to act out. Rebel against routine. I didn’t even want to wait for “Thirsty Thursday”.

So when Mon casually suggested we mix it up and go see Red Riding Hood after our workouts last night, I had a list of available movie times sent back to her within minutes.

Sure, I’m replacing the idea of fresh spring air with semi-stale buttery popcorn smell. But that’s not the point.

The point is we’re doing something different. Watch out now!

Obviously, we still had to workout first (some things will never change). I did another 5-mile run. 8:39 pace. 5 miles in the middle of the week is still a very new concept for me. Getting used to it, but I still start feeling pretty “done with this shiznit” at mile 4ish. Luckily, another girl I see regularly who had just started her run said she was in the long haul for a 5-miler, too. So there was someone next to me the entire time. It helped.

Afterwards, I jumped in and out of the shower in a flash so I’d still be able to come up with some sort of dinner before we left for the show. Then I just decided to break out the big purse and take my dinner to the show… A peanut butter wrap. This is what happens when there isn’t time to cook for myself. And when I don’t have 2 slices of bread laying around. *Shrugs*

What else would you expect? I was at a movie! It was either that or swedish fish…

If you think I’m toting broccoli into a theater, you’re sadly mistaken.

But back to the movie…

I’m usually not one for movies like this. I know the same director did Twilight and I’m not really into that whole series (a lot of that may have to do with my dislike of Kristen Stewart- but that’s a discussion for another day). But it seemed a little suspenseful without all the gore. Which I like. So I went.

It was decent. The critics were pretty harsh, and I understand why after reading their reviews, but there wasn’t ever a moment of true boredom. The story was told decently well, however even I think they could have gone a little “darker” with it. Considering I’m the one saying this, you can imagine it’s not nearly as scary as they make it out to be…

But whatev. I was entertained. And that is what matters in my egocentric world.

Before I’m off to go chug coffee, I’ll just say good luck to everyone who will be cheering on their teams during March Madness. Mizzou made it in, so you can assume that, even with slim chances, I’ll be cheering them on. Gotta represent. Holla’.

Also, enjoy St. Patty’s Day! Are you doing anything to celebrate? While the masses will be enjoying green beer and cabbage today, I’ll be scarfing ice cream cake. It’s my boss’s birthday. He doesn’t eat cake, but has a crazy obsession with ice cream.

I see no problems with this.

Stretch it out…

What up?

I’m just sitting here chillin’ with my friend Mr. Coffee…Well actually, it’s Mr. Hamilton Beach.  Mr. Coffee’s a little out of my league.  (aka was not on sale when I needed to acquire a coffee maker)  And since I’m more of a green tea person in the mornings, I don’t feel the need to get a better one.

All together now…Looks like someone needs to clean their table…  And I swear that’s not an obnoxious amount of peanut butter… it’s less than a serving (I know because I still measure it)!  Looks big, though…

I knew it would be one of those days (ahem- coffee day) before I even went to bed.  Because I went to bed late.  After wine and a scary movie with my friend Mon.  I do have to say I don’t feel bad like I normally do. The secret?  Don’t drink as much wine…Imagine that.  We only broke into one bottle (but it is ALWAYS necessary to have a backup just in case).

Back to the movie- I thought it’d be scarier…  We watched Shutter Island last night and I do have to say my thoughts on how this movie was going to go were completely wrong!  I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but I expected a kind of supernatural and sort of dark movie.  Not what I got.  But it kept us thinking with all the twists and turns.  I liked it.  Sure, I left Mon’s place pretty weirded out.  But it was good.  Much better than our last attempt at scary- which was Wolfman.  Gag me.  I still shudder to how awful that one was.

What’s your favorite scary movie?  I’m not much for blood and gore- I like the thrillers.

Yesterday’s salad topic was a good one.  I was amused by all the people who love cucumbers on their salad.  Sadly, cucumbers and I don’t get along.  We never have.  As much as I love veggies, I cannot tell you how devastated I was one day after a rushed shopping trip that I accidently picked that up over a zucchini.  Seriously dudes- it’s the little things that’ll piss you off… (just like the little things that make you smile- am I right?)

Tonight I have a four-mile run ahead of me.  I’m not too concerned because at least the humidity levels have gone down.  So I won’t be panting and crawling for water by the end of it.  Hopefully.  It’s still a little early in the day to be making bold predictions.

Let’s discuss stretching.  I suck at it.  Wait- no.  I don’t suck at it.  I just don’t like doing it.  So I’m wondering, what’s a good amount of time to spend on stretching after a run?  Any favorite stretches you have?  Ones that you think are most important?  I need some inspiration…  Here’s me pretending I like stretching:It’s all lies.

Have a good Thursday.  I’m gonna go get a refill…

The Next Level

So Hump Day kicked my butt yesterday.  Not sure what it was, but I was yawning the entire drive home (and I got stuck in traffic, so it was a whole lot).  I was going to do The Shred and yoga when I got home.  It’s a running rest day.  But I didn’t budget my time very well for if I still wanted to get a service in for Ash Wednesday.  My excuse is numbers really aren’t my thing.  Remember- I was a marketing major for a reason.

I decided on The Shred.  And it was time for Level 2.  The curiosity of what it would consist of was really starting to get to me.  And it was…. different.  I think I like the Level 1 workout better.  Don’t get me wrong- Level 2 kicked my butt.  Or, to be more specific, my arms.  I feel like the arms got a crazy workout this time around.  I may have whimpered a little.  I just wasn’t a fan of all the moves- walking push-up?  It’s just awkward.  Maybe that’s just me.  But then again, so is “downward dog” in my opinion, so hopefully I’ll just get used to it.  I trust your judgement, Jillian.

Maybe part of the reason I liked Level 1 better was I had fallen into my comfort zone.  So I’m going to keep on truckin’ with this new one.  For now.  Hopefully my arms don’t fall off in the meantime.

I ran out of peanut butter yesterday. Booo…. I smell a Trader Joe’s shopping trip over lunch!  Yes, I am excited.  Yes, it could be the highlight of my day.  No worries- I’m totally ok with that.

Oh and who wants to see Shutter Island with me?  :)   I am not a huge fan of seeing scary movies in the theater.  I’d rather duck and hide under the covers in the comfort of my own home.  But this one looks pretty good- I’m more of a “thriller” and “chase scene” kinda gal- not a “blood and gore” type.  Some of those slasher movies really creep me out.  Like The Strangers (I think that’s what it was- with Liv Tyler?)- just the concept of the movie scared the crap out of me.  I was living by myself my last summer before I moved to Chicago when it came out- couldn’t even watch the commercials.  Yeah- the commercials scared the crap out of me.  The commercials!  So I stay away from those…  But Leo looks like he’s got control of the situation in this one- and it’s one that won’t haunt my dreams and make me drive to a friend’s house to sleep for a couple weeks.  So that’s promising.

Because yesterday was so “blah”, this is how I started out my day:A little chocolate and coconut goodness to my usual oatmeal and cereal combo was completely necessary.  But for the record- I didn’t realize I may have overdone it on the chocolate until I saw this picture uploaded.  Whatev- it’s still up for debate if there is such a thing as too much chocolate…  And it’s not like there’s peanut butter in there since I ran out.  So the calories evened out?  ;)   Don’t say anything- just let me believe that.

Happy Thursday, kids!  We’re so close to the weekend!!!
