I wish I could tell you yesterday was a full, exciting, super busy, crazy day with a million things worth talking about.
But it wasn’t.
This was the first weekend where I didn’t really have huge travel plans/events/etc other than a chill night over at my friend Annie’s. My body knew this. So it shut down. Literally- I got more sleep this weekend than the last two combined (as evidenced by yesterday’s description of all the places in my apartment where I lounged). Don’t believe me? Ask any one of my friends who either couldn’t get a hold of me at all or ones that caught me right as I was waking up from yet another nap.
At least I learned a few things this weekend.
Like how to make a new kind of pancake.
The movie I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is one of those movies that are actually better than the book itself.
That I can, and will, give up on books. (Hence the reason why I just decided to watch the movie even though I was only half way through the book.)
Some things will take way longer than anticipated. Case in point? Making this:
Stuffed acorn squash. Totally not one of those things for when you’re sitting there and go “oh, I’m hungry now”.
Because you’ll be waiting. A while.
Cutting and taking the seeds out didn’t take long. Nope. Just long enough for me to notice how horribly I’ve already messed up my nails.
After you do that, you get them ready to be popped in the oven…
Stop and make a few inappropriate boob jokes here if you’d like. But you’re wasting valuable cooking time.
Because once you cover and stick these in the oven… they’ll take time. Lots of time. I set the oven at 350 degrees and they took about 75 minutes. Is this normal??
But whatever, at least it gave me PLENTY of time to take care of the “stuffed” part.
Because I’ll find a way to sneak spinach and mushrooms into anything. But you already know this.
That’s risotto I found in a box in the back of my pantry. I felt compelled to use it last night. Mostly because when I looked at the box, it said to use by October 2010.
Um… that means use it as soon as possible. Right?
No worries- I don’t feel bad at all this morning. We’re all good.
And the squash was quite good considering this was the first time I made it. Usually the first time isn’t the best. It can be nerve-wracking. Experimental. Awkward. Often enhanced with a glass of wine (which I didn’t have).
Wait… what are we talking about?
Back to things I learned this weekend…
Oh wait, I think that’s it.
What can I say? When you’re asleep for half the weekend, that doesn’t leave much room for learning…
What did you do/learn over the weekend?
