Restored Energy Levels

Ok, so I’m feeling much better!  Nothing that an overabundance of coffee and H20 can’t cure…  Hopefully today I’ll need a little less of the “hard stuff” to get to hyped cheerleader perky levels.  Ok, maybe a few notches lower.  Let’s not overdo it.

Since my mood was “iffy” at best, I decided it was the best for everyone around me that I take a quiet lunch on my own with my current new read. It’s a book I picked up at the library last week before my trip.  I was concerned I’d finish “Are You There, Vodka?  It’s Me, Chelsea.” before the weekend was over, so I snagged a few backups- which included “I Was Told There’d Be Cake” by Sloane Crosley.  I did finish Chelsea’s book (and I love you that much more Chelsea Handler!) but didn’t get to start this new one until today.

So far I love it.  Her first chapter is dedicated to her weird collection of plastic toy ponies.  Quirky.  Yet fantastic.  Just like me.  And what else is fantastic?  That salad.  Yep.  I’ll throw that word out there.  Cauliflower made a guest appearance today thanks to a sale at my friendly neighborhood grocery store.  Thanks Jewel Osco!  Leftover turkey from Easter also got thrown in.  My mom was disappointed I didn’t load up on candy, so what I lacked in sugar, I made up for in protein.  It’s Thursday and I’m still trying to get through it all!  I don’t usually stick turkey in salad, but whatevs.  It worked.

Yoga went fabulously.  Is it sad that I’m a half-step in front of the girl on the video?  I should probably switch it up, but I’m nervous I’ll end up not liking the next one… I wish there was a “Fitness Fusion Level 2″ or something like that.  Because I really enjoy that it’s not the traditional yoga.  I’ve heard good things about Jillian Michael’s yoga dvds.  Maybe it’ll be something to try?

Jess over at Process of Healing is so lovely and handed me the Stiletto award the other day!  I just wanted to give her a little shout out and say thank you!  I know I’m supposed to tag a certain number of people, but I really suck at this so I’m just going to highlight a couple peeps:

Ten.Eight.Six.Four because she is working her butt off for the race she just did and ones to come!

Simply Shaka because she’s my “go to” for fun posts of life and pop culture and the two combined…

It’s a Great Day to Be Alive! because she’s a fun read everyday!

Low… and Behold! because I’m often a huge fan of the random musings she likes to bring up…

So those are some girlies to check out if you haven’t already.  Now back to business…

I’m skeptical about the planned run today.  The weather doesn’t look like it’s going to be on my side.  I’m bringing the workout clothes to change into right after work, but I’m pretty sure rain is in the forecast all day.  Last night Annie and I talked about the race.  I told her I’m 90% doing it.  We also discussed other important things such as leave time, what to bring, and of course where we’re going to eat afterwards…  I’m looking into that one.  Any Lincoln Park breakfast/brunch spots I’ve just got to try?  I’ve been to a few in that area because that’s where a lot of my runs happened last year.  But I’m open to suggestions!

Annoyance of the day?  This zit that popped up to say hello for the weekend.  What the hell?  Get off my FACE!!!  Honestly now- I have bangs.  Why can’t you hide out under there?  I don’t understand.  Grr…  Was I the only one who thought when you got older, zits would stop happening?  And I have some issues with whoever told me that… Not cool!

  1. haha…you had me laughing there! I hate it when I get a zit. I am like what?! Wasn’t this supposed to stop once I hit say 20?? 8 years later why are you still showing up?!?

  2. haha nice post. Have you checked out Salt & Peper Diner? They have one in Wrigley and Lincoln Park. It’s awesome.

Thanks for my first blogging award!!!

    • I’ve been to the one in Wrigley- have you had their bloody mary’s? I heard they’re to die for! (not so much a bloody mary fan myself) I’ll look up where the one in LP is… thanks!

      • Nope, haven’t had their bloody mary but I also heard they were good. I’m not much of a bloody mary girl either.

  3. Haha I hate when I get random zits, plus I can never leave them alone which only makes it worse. I hope the weather holds out for you, I heard on the news this morning that some parts of Illinois are getting snow?! Ridiculous, it’s been in the high 80s here all week!

  4. I read ‘I Was Told There’d Be Cake’ too, but love Chelsea Handler a bit more. How can you not? Oh, and your lunch looks like mine but I add tofu- being the vegetarian I (mostly) am.

I’m loyal to Stella’s Diner at 3042 N Broadway St in East Lakeview. I’ve heard good things about the Salt and Pepper Diner and Orange too.

I do The Biggest Loser Yoga DVD which incorporates a light set of weights. Keep enjoying your yoga!

  5. Um, Clark’s diner in Lincoln Park is always a good diner go-to, but if you’re looking for something a little classier, Toast is delicious–I’ve been to the one in Wicker Park, but apparently there’s another one in Lincoln Park!

  6. Amy, thanks for stopping by my blog and saying hi! It led me to yours, and I’ll definitely be following :) Love your attitude. Hate zits; they always have the annoying tendency to never show up in the right place (if there is such a thing) and always show up in the wrong one.

Hope you’re having a great day!

  7. Haha I hate getting zits. I find I get them when the dog licks my face, but try stopping her. Its near impossible!

  8. Aww I love Chelsea Handler, I just love the titles of her books too! So funny.
Thanks for the reviews on books, I’ll have to check those out, but not from the library because I’m blacklisted in Massachusetts and now Connecticut too.

Good luck on the run! I, too, am getting to that prepubescent boy stage with a zit on my chin. Hide in the hairline, for Christ’s sake!

  9. You are very welcome for the award and thank you so much for the shout out!!
That book sounds really interesting, I’ll have to check that out. I love to read but I never have time..until now!
Haha yeah zits… so much for that. I get them when I am stressed, it’s insane and so embarrassing. Especially when you are like me and stress all of the time. Fun stuff.
Good luck on the run, if you run! And I have never tried Jillian Michael’s yoga dvd (it’s hard for me to picture her doing anything remotely calm like yoga) but I used to LOVE her other dvds. She kicks your butt!!
    Love ya!

    • Yes, reading would be good to get into for the next couple of weeks for you! Go for the Chelsea books first if you can- I’ve been wanting to read her newest one, but there’s a wait list several pages long for it! Ugh…

  10. i love chelsea too :) my boyfriend finds her annoying. i find her extremely hilarious :)

my zits always pop up on my chin. its so gross.

  11. Ew…nothing makes you feel more like a pre-teen than a huge zit on yo face…I mean seriously…

Chelsea Handler makes me laugh. I love Chelsea Lately and I can never get enough of her mocking the stars. Get it, girl.

  12. “Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea” <– Clearly, I'm not classy enough to enjoy Stephen King ;)

  13. i’ve seen that cake book a few places – can’t wait to hear your final review of it and if I should be adding it to my list. I also broke out terribly yesterday – I think related to work stress – so I feel ya on both the zit and work stress issues.

  14. Ugh, I still get a few zits but then again I’m still only 18.. they’re slowly going away though. I’m going to hold onto the belief that in a couple more years they will be gone and only bother me on super rare occasions. Like, one every 10 years. Or I guess if I’m more realistic, one a year.

I’ve never read either of those books but the vodka one sounds interesting. ;)

  15. Haha, I get so mad at zits. I WISH they stopped in HS…boo for that false logic.

Also, thanks for the good book recommendation. Anything with “cake” in the title is sure to get my attention. Also, I LOVE Ms. Handler and her books as well, I can’t wait to read her new one!

  16. I’m dying to read that Chelsea Handler book, thanks for the review.

I hate random zits too, so annoying!

  17. I hate random zits and wish I had bangs for just that reason. But my hair and bangs just don’t work, despite trying numerous times. You have good hair! I am jealous.

I really want to read that book, I have heard so many good things about it!

  18. Ugh I hate grown up zits…I made it through high school only having like 3 zits total. Now, my face breaks out like crazy. I’m all WTF, I’m not 14 anymore…

  19. Awww thanks girl! I’m glad my randomness doesn’t go unnoticed, haha.

And I totally feel ya on the zit thang. I had one pop up today, AND my nose it looking all sorts of Rudolph due to the 1 million times an hour I’ve been blowing my nose. Lame…

Glad you’re rid of the hangover. It’s almost the weekend!

  20. I have been meaning to read Chelsea’s book. Love her! I’m going to make it my next read.

  21. Zits seem to know exactly when and how to ruin your life most efficiently…its really almost impressive. It’s also getting super old.

  22. you make me smile! too too funny!

  23. Oh gosh I HATE zits so much. I wish they were nonexistent for real. So glad you are feeling better :o)

  24. Ugh, I hate hen zits just pop up overnight – don’t they have any respect? Oh well, I hope you ended up having a good run! :)
